Kerala MV Dept: Now inviting complaints via Facebook

Kerala Motor vehicle dept has come up with a new initiative called the Third Eye to monitor traffic violations. With this initiative, Kerala MVD expects public to inform about traffic violators on their face book page or call up the helpline numbers, SMS them the relevant details. The MV dept will then verify the facts and take the actions against such violators. Link attached

Although a good initiative, this can be prone to a lot of prank calls, unneccessary mails or facebook updates.

Wish there was an option to complain on the private buses plying on the roads in Kochi city. The next in line are the trucks and then autorickshaws. Once in a blue moon the cops catch a bus plying at high speed in thickly populated area and it will then hit the headlines. After that its complete silence for the next one month. Between there would be atleast 15 to 20 accidents by these buses itself. And the funniest thing is that the cops will fine them in a mere hundreds and the same bus is back on the same area racing at 100 in another couple of days.

Yet another initiative to hurt the pubic even more, without doing anything to improve the pathetic road infrastructure. If only the government concentrated on the basics first- good four/ six lane roads, proper lane markings and signals etc and then set about to catch violators!

The catch here is that they 'will verify the facts'- enough for the corrupt to escape and accidental law breakers to be penalised.

While I understand your apprehension about chances of police harassing people for silly reasons, in Kerala people won't give up that easily. Also authorities have said that they will ensure that this program will not be used for targeting individuals. Anyway we need to wait and see.

If it works well, another good initiative from Kerala MVD.
