Great Initiative by NHAI. Like others have suggested, NHAI really needs to get a prepaid card system in operation so that time and money can be saved by everyone concerned.

In the meanwhile, I am hoping someone will write up a quickie app which uses GPS coordinates and tells the user which toll plaza is coming up, how much to pay etc...or am I asking for too much?:)

I find the Gazatte information provided in the link for each toll to be good and useful. It shows the base charges for per KMs. Hope the toll operators print these info along with the length of road into the receipts.

Definitely a good initiative. Hope its constantly updated.

A good effort by NHAI.
Hope it doesn't end up ripped off like the earlier trainenquiry.com which had interactive Google-maps based real time train running info. It was maintained by a private website operator. This website is still running but in a much austere form. No Google maps.

2 if not 3 toll plazas seems to be missing from Hyderabad-Vijayawada route. It shows only 2 and total toll amount for a car to be Rs.105 where as it is around Rs.250-300.

I travel quite often on the Bangalore - Mulbagal Highway. I believe the govt. has banned the collection of toll on that highway due to poor condition of the road from the last one year (Though it is one of the best roads I have driven on, especially from Hoskote to Mulbagal)

Good Effort. But the desktop crawlers still not working. Directs to the hosting webpage. (screenshot attached below)
Use this link to access the page from desktops.

Moreover as some has quoted it needs to be integrated.
It does show the much hyped Yamuna expressway from Greater Noida to Agra road but since its not maintained by NHAI the toll collected for route is show as zero and booths aren't marked as well.
Efforts needed for to make this successful->
1) Constant update of info whenever new toll is added or removed.
2) All tolls irrespective of agency/company maintained should be listed.

Web site seems to be down as of now clicking on http://nhaitis.org/ says This site is under construction....

Seems like we directed a lot of traffic to their webservers than they anticipated. Hopefully, they'll be back online soon.

are the two news stories on the websites

I guess we can add one more irritant to the list NHAI was trying to solve "the website doesn't work"

It indeed is a good initiative.
But once again the site http://nhaitis.org/ is "UNDER CONSTRUCTION" and the page http://nhaitis.org/index.html is not available in the server. May be due to the enforced "code of conduct"

Samish

Well almost 3 months have passes and I am still getting the same error message. I wonder if they intend to bring the site back up ever again or not!

They may be in the process of legalising all illegal toll booths,:)

Wow it says the the site is under construction .....looks like since last 3 months there is no progress in getting the site back up....

Hi,

We are in the process of planning a long road trip in India. Was going through the travelogue section to gather information to create a travel plan. The trip will be from Trivandrum, Kerala to Longewala, Rajastan.

1) Is there a way to find out the approximate toll charges for the entire trip once you finalize the route ? (Just to get an idea as to how much cash to carry)
2) Are there any automatic toll payment systems on any of the new highways ?
3) Understand that there are "one way" and "return" toll tickets. If you opt for the "return", does it have to be a same day return or can be after a few days ?

The following link used to show the toll charges and I have verified it before. However its not opening now,

Some the the bhpians have mentioned the toll charges in their travelogues, so you can try this option.

For your trip, toll charges could be around Rs. 2500 - but it might differ a lot, depending on the road you take. Basically, it will be negligible compared to your other expenses (food, fuel, accommodation).
