The city of Hyderabad is running short of CNG due to GAIL pipeline blowout at a village in East Godavari district.

The only supplier of Gas for the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, The Bhagyanagar Gas Limited (BGL), has stopped supply to the outlets. The authorities or the BGL is not sure when they would start the supply of fuel again.

HYDERABAD: The city is feeling the heat of the recent GAIL pipeline blowout at Nagaram village in East Godavari district with the supply of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fast dwindling. Most fuel outlets displayed 'No Stock' boards from Tuesday evening itself and the full impact will be felt on Wednesday as over 20,000 autos and 131 APSRTC buses may go off the roads.

The Bhagyanagar Gas Limited (BGL), the sole supplier of the eco-friendly fuel, has cut CNG supply to outlets in the twin cities and its suburbs. Uncertainty remains on when supplies would resume.

It is sad to see the current state of CNG in the city. There are very limited CNG stations in the city and now this. Since the start of CNG supply in the city, there has hardly been any development in terms of installing more CNG stations. CNG car sales were not good either.

This situation will also translate into increase in auto fares. Since there are less autos, petrol and diesel autos will start demanding more money. They already demand for a tip on and above the actual meter fare. This will only make it worse.

Though this shortfall that is witnessed is not a man-made deficit but a pipe line burst that is an incident which will be solved and things would be back on track as earlier but till then it going to be difficult for a certain number of households.

How I see this shortfall affecting is that a major share of buses, cabs/taxis and autos run primarily on CNG so this shortfall will have many vehicles taken off the road for a short period of time till the situation stabilises.

Taking vehicles off the road would mean low income generated by the drivers of private vehicles and by the government due lesser number of RTC buses running to keep the system running.

Longer queues at filing stations with arguments arising from owners fighting as the attendants would not be doing a full tank to all users so that maximum number get some quantity each.

This morning I have seen CNG being filled in a car at a filling station near Bowenpalli Check post. Also I have seen number of trucks transporting CNG to various filling stations across Hyderabad:D.

Is this problem solved so soon? Request Bhpians who run their cars on CNG to share more information. Is CNG available or shortage still there?

I saw a couple of CNG autos ferrying customers around the city this morning. Looks like the issue has been resolved.

The issue has almost solved as per an friendly auto driver whom I bumped into yesterday evening. Supplies are being restored but would take a bit of time to get back to normal.

Earlier the fuel station guys were not letting every auto / vehicle have a full tank but now they are.
