So, if I am driving straight and this guy is driving backwards, how will 'I' know. I would probably 'think' it's stationary or its going forward. There is a good chance that I will hit him and If I do, will the case be upon me "for hitting him from behind" or upon him "for hitting me with his behind". :Frustrati Arrgh!! Its so dangerous all round!!! Media should stop publicizing such dangerous stunts. And he is thinking he is doing a great thing by endangering other people's lives.

Well said and a nice analogy. Going by your signature, I don't think this guy is in agreement with you though.

A car is not meant to be driven in reverse forever because of the steering, brakes, suspension, sitting position, safety features (yes, for pedestrians too), headlamps, passengers in the rear seat hindering view of rear, etc. They all are designed for forward driving which means COMPROMISED CONTROL when driven in reverse. And on another thought, leave alone what the MV act has to say about driving in reverse, it surely says to have rear view mirrors on every automobile. Does this guy has a Rear (or front) view mirror to check the traffic at rear (or front). Or is it that the rule is waived off for him so that he can continue his antics on public roads?
Now, there must be an even more intelligent person in the authority than this guy who granted the permission for this nautanki.

Curious as to how this has been implemented ? :)

I think, some day he will also convince the 'babus' that driving backwards reduces fuel consumption and lowers CO2 emissions. Santa, please give him some stick.

Actually, reverse racing is not so uncommon, at least in North America. I have linked to a short YouTube video below, and I have personally watched one race myself where there were as lot of VW Beetles racing backwards.

The cars are modified so that the gearbox is somehow installed backwards or something so that you have multiple reverse speeds and one forward speed. Sorry, I am not technical enough to explain it properly.

These drivers reach amazing speeds and have excellent skills.

That said, what the guy in the original post's video is doing is very unsafe because he is doing it on public roads in the midst of regular traffic.

Cheers
