Waylaying / robbery attempt on NH-17 (Karnala stretch)

From Facebook today: https://www.facebook.com/groups/hvku...2898749879565/

Quote:
A case of waylaying has been reported by on NH -17 just around the bend near Karnala bird sanctuary near Panvel.

Our national pastime, road digging and widening has begun on NH-17 and this is the bend near Karnala bird sanctuary that debris has piled up on one side of the road and the road narrows down for 02 way traffic, buses and larger vehicle slow down due to the slight gradient as well. The incident happened at around 01 am , they were in a luxury bus which was going towards Goa , when the bus came at this bend, the cleaner heard a loud thud and while he looked out of the window to see what the noise was he identified a bag had fallen. Assuming that the bag must have fallen from their own bus, the bus stopped while he got down to retrieve the luggage, he was gagged and beaten by the robbers, luckily for him, the drive saw this in the side mirror and waked up another sleeping driver (back up) , gave instructions to passengers to bolt the door from inside and they got down to help the cleaner. In that while another luxury approached the spot and after realizing what had happened they stopped and got down to help, the miscreants ran away leaving the injured cleaner.

Learning, this is coy used by a gang, identify vehicle which have luggage strapped on the carriers and to do a similar act. Or the most common of them, throwing of eggs on the windscreen, although this has now become know to all, vehicles do not stop or rather should not stop or use wipers to clean.

Hence please take care and share this stretch of the road to alert other motorist as well…

So if you use the Goa highway, and pass through Karnala, do ensure you are aware of this and be careful especially at night and early mornings.

In case you have heard similar incidents elsewhere on the Goa highway recently, do share the same as well here.

Re: Waylaying / robbery attempt on NH-17 (Karnala stretch)

I just returned from Goa last night and felt that the roads are pretty safe.

Thanks for the update anyways.
