We all have a dream road trip that we want to go on sometime in our life. Not to mention in a particular car

So BHPians, what is your ultimate road trip and the car that you would want to drive?

More than welcome to go into the details

My choice of roads are:

1. Transfagarasan Road (Romania):





The Transfagarasan mountain road or national road 7C is one of the most spectacular roads in the world. It is 90 km (56 miles) long and is located in Romania. It runs trough the Fagaras mountains (trans + Fagaras), a part of the Transsylvanian Alps. The road connects Transsylvania with Muntenia. The Transfagarasan starts at Bascov, near Piteçti. It follows the valley of the river Argea and after mounting to the highest point, it descends to Cartisoara in the Olt valley, where the road ends.
It has been declared by (Sir ) Jeremy Clarkson and his mates as the best road for a road trip. And I couldn't agree more. Just look at the pictures!

2. Mille Miglia (Italy):








One of the most famous races in motorsport history, this scenic route goes all over Italy.In 1926, two Italians had the idea to hold a motorsport event in and around their hometown of Brescia. They decided to organize an endurance race of about 1500km through Italy. To show participants where to go, they designed the now famous red arrow with white letters. The first edition of the Mille Miglia was held on March 26 in 1927 with 77 cars participating.Since then, the race became a yearly event (with a break during the Second World War) attracting lots racing legends and public. However, with the cars becoming faster and more powerful, open road racing became very dangerous. After a Ferrari crashed into the public in 1957, killing 12 people, the race was banned. In 1982 the race was revived as a 4-day road rally for cars built between 1927 and 1957, the golden age of the Mille Miglia and Gran Turismo racing.

Choice of cars:

Being a classic car lover, these were the obvious options that came to my mind

1. 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso


2. 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione 'Tour de France'

3. 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing

Yes, I saw a picture of this road many years ago and since then, I have wanted to ride on these roads. Not a car guy so any bike above 250cc will do. Heck, I wouldn't mind riding these roads on my CBR itself. Drool drool.

So it has to be Stelvio Pass on a good flickable bike with the guts to do it.

My favourite road is Pollachi-Valparai ghat road in Tamil Nadu. I drove on this stretch umpteen number of times in my dad's and my past and present vehicles. Given a chance, I would like to drive/ride on this beautiful road again and again!

Did a complete Circle of Lake Como, Italy in our Fiat Panda 4x4 last year in Dec. One of the most pictures drives and definitely Italy's most beautiful lake. Planning to do it again this year

I would love to go to the Yungas road in Bolivia with a 200 series Landcruiser with an AT box. After all, You only live once!

Heard two first hand experiences, they say it's extremely hair raising.

6. UK :: London to Wales :: Fiat Punto

7. USA :: San Francisco - San Jose - Yellowstone - Palm Springs - Wine countryside :: Mitsubishi Outlander

My idea of fun road trip is: family + tourer + roadside dhabas+ far away destination.

Luckily I get to do it very often. Earlier on a Safari and now on an Innova.

But if allowed to dream, I'd like to be on the road and explore India (north-south-east-west) with my family on a caravan like the one below:

1. Stelvio Pass

The fantastic winding roads to Stelvio Pass has always been on my wishlist. I would love to do it on a Ducati 1299 Panigale R.






2. Faroe Islands

This would be the honeymoon destination of my choice. Fantastic roads, lovely landscapes, far away from the hustle bustle of any city !

I would love to travel to Faroe Islands and drive around in a Jaguar F-Type V8 convertible.






3. Kathmandu-Lhasa Road

This is one road which is right on the top of my bucketlist. I wish to do it on a BMW R1200 GS Adventure.






4. Great Ocean Road

To see the lovely coastline, apostles and spot kangaroos on the way. I wish to drive along the GOR at the helm of a sporting E46 BMW M3 Coupe.






5. Nardo Ring

To defy the laws of physics.
I wish to drive a hypercar here, maybe the McLaren P1 !!

I would want to explore entire India with family, especially the hinterlands. My choice for that would be Tata Winger as of today. Since it is a large vehicle, I can have Volvo bus like recliner 2-3 seats for the comfort . LED for entertainment of family, small centre table or have a lounge type setup. It can carry enough luggage including the 5 kg cylinder with burner to cook and eat in open. In fact, at one point of time I had decided to do that but then it didn't make a good choice financially to have a vehicle that I will use it once in year for 15 days or so and most of the time it will be parked gathering dust.

I did a similar roadtrip few months back in my punto and I absolutely agree with you. The roads and landscapes are absolutely mind blowing and its way better than any hill station in TN. For your info I have done Chennai - Ooty, Chennai - Yearcaud, Chennai - Yellagiri and Coimbatore - Valparai roadtrips and out of these the Valparai trip was the best. The drive is far better than any hill stations mentioned in the above list.

Have covered many segments individualy but would like to do in one go.

Vehicle will be my trusty Toyota Fortuner 4x4 MT.

Totally agreed! Such speciality vehicles are best rented, not owned. Check this & this out.

2) Salar De Uyuni: World's largest salt flat in Bolivia. Road trip specially after it rains.



3) Karakoram Highway: China to Pakistan. Highest paved road in the world



4) The Ring Road - Iceland



5) The Road to Hana - Hawaii



6) The Atlantic Road - Norway



7) Ruta 40 - Argentina. A route through the magnificent Patagonia



All these in my all time favourite Jeep .
