I am surprised ZoomCar etc., did not get involved citing that not allowing their all India permit is illegal.

Dear Friends,

We met Mr.Nitin Gadkari yesterday at his Delhi residence for more than 30 minutes.

The main agenda of this meeting was to appraise him on the ground realities prevailing in Karnataka, Telengana and Jammu and kashmir.

He was horrified to see the video where in the Convoy was attacked by the Goons and has assured us of his support.

We have also appraised him on the PIL which was filed in the High Court of Jammu and kashmir and the interim ruling.

Re: Drive without borders vs State of Jammu & Kashmir

The news reporter's interpretation of Section 47, MV Act 1988 is completely false. The reporter says state governments have misinterpreted it, but it is the reporter who have done it. Section 47, MV Act 1988 only talks about re-registering the vehicle if it is used in a state for more than 12 months. If you read the various provisions in this section, you can see that the word "Life Time Tax", or "Road Tax" is not even used once. The taxation provisions are all in the respective state's vehicle taxation acts (which is a state wide Act).

It is these journalists with half-baked knowledge who seems to be causing more damage these days.

Dear Sir,

The reporter apparently relied on the judgement pronounced by the Honorable Chief Justice Of The High Court Of Telengana & AP.I have attached the same for your kind reference.

PS:I do not intend to start a debate here nor i am trying to refute your post.

Thanks. Looks like the AP RTO folks did not do their home work properly . When they levied the life time tax on the petitioner they just used Sec 96 of AP Motor Vehicle Rules, in which they use provisions of Sec 47 MV Act. The judges rightly observed that Sec 96 of AP MV Rules of Sec 47 of MV Act does NOT mention any thing about taxation.

They should learn from their counterparts in Karnataka, who did it the right way. By modifying the state specific Act for Motor Vehicle Taxations.

Re: Drive without borders vs State of Jammu & Kashmir

Thankfully, the Telangana RTO authorities have decided notried to emulate the Karanataka RTO. Instead, there appears to be a move to amend the provisions of the Act to provide for a yearly tax on the lines of Kerala. At least that is what the news article states

I guess the need to attract investments is behind this move. As I understand, many companies in the knowledge space reimburse the OTT of employees when they move. So eventually, it adds to the cost of doing business in a place for a company.
