This is a good move by the state government; congratulation to the Gujarat Government on spearheading this movement.

Maharashtra decision is only limited to those toll roads which operated under annuity model and have recovered far more than the cost required to be recovered from commuters / road users.

This will also greatly reduce the travel time as only commercial vehicles will stop at the booths.

Very welcome move; hope this is not short lived and repair and maintenance of roads is carried out regularly.

Unfortunately, CM who took this initiative has resigned today, now it remains to be seen if new guy continues with this proposal

There seems to be confusion on the purview of the toll tax. While State Highways do come under the purview of the Gujarat Government - thats not the case with National Highways.

Patel said that surveys are being conducted to ascertain the exact amount of burden that Gujarat government will have to bear for such an exemption. However, the decision is not likely to affect toll booths on national highways as they are out of the purview of the state government.

Most of the major Highways in Gujarat are NH. (Ahmedabad - Rajkot - Jamnagar / Ahmedabad - Vadodara / NH8 that goes to Delhi and Mumbai). So if the above is true, then the actual benefit may not be as widespread.

Here is the list of free toll-Plazas in Gujarat. I have driven through all of these toll-plazas by my car (private vehicle) and didn't have to pay toll at any of these toll-plazas.

1. Bhuj-Nakhatrana
2. Kim-Mandvi road
3. Deesa Panthavada Gundari road
4. Ahmedabad Mehsana
5. Vadodara Halol road
6. Vadodara Chhani
7. Ring Road around Ahmedabad.

If the state can manage it why not. In many ways toll is a way of funding road building, at an accelerated pace. I hope it is just the beginning.

Ahmedabad - Viragram - Halvad- till Khilaj is also toll-free for travel to Gandhidham/ Bhuj, If I am not mistaken, Ahmedabad - Rajkot road is also Toll-free.

Agree, let's hope for the best given the interesting times ahead

We pay highest Taxes when we buy new Car, then for registration and again on fuel and still have to pay Toll, all this after paying 30 + % income tax to the Government

Thanks for input Turbanator Sir. I just confirmed with some locals. They are free for private vehicles. Adding them to list.
