He doesnt use PayTM so want to avoid that.

My Fast Tags are from The Saraswat Co Op Bank, and linked to a saving account. I keep nominal balance there. Days usage is debited around 6 Pm the same evening. No recharge or transfer required.
If I have a dispute and report it before 6.00 Pm the debit is held up.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Is it possible to just walk to a POS and buy the FASTag now? Online options seem to take some time.
Which is the best/closest POS to Jayanagar, Bangalore? I did some Googling but did not get reliable info.
I also want to know what are the consequences of not having FASTag. Does one have to pay double the amount?

You'll be relegated in most toll booths to the leftmost cash-only lane. These lanes are lengthy because their throughput is slow. Only if you venture into a Fastag only lane will you be charged double (lenient, compared to the traffic violation ticket you'll receive for venturing with cash in hand into an EZPass-only lane in the US).
And you'll be coming in contact with the toll cashiers.

Toll collection from motorists on National Highways has been temporarily suspended to facilitate speedy movement to emergency services as India fights the coronavirus outbreak.

In a tweet yesterday, Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, said, "In view of COVID-19, it has been ordered to temporarily suspend the collection of toll at all toll plazas across India. This will not only reduce inconvenience to the supply of emergency services but also save critical time. Maintenance of roads and availability of emergency resources at toll plaza will continue as usual."

I received an SMS from HDFC Bank (I have their FasTag) stating that no Toll collection on NH toll plazas between 26th March and 14th April. Good move by the government. But will this apply to the non-NH toll plazas?

This announcement is like Performing Vasectomy Operation first and offering free delivery operations later.
In this lockdown who is going to travel across the borders?

This is aimed at the vehicles involved in the supplies of essential goods

Essential supplies and goods movements can become faster than wasting time in the tolls

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Probably the only fast-tag in the country equipped with an ad-blocker?

Got rid of the 'paper' part of it, which is unnecessarily big, distracting, and having advertisements of banks and all. This is just the tag with its protective transparent plastic layer.

FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!-dsc09330.jpg

How I did it:
The fast-tag was fixed just like any other fast tag. Later I applied coconut oil on the paper surface of it, and kept it almost soaked in oil for about 3 days. After that I could easily peel off the paper without damaging the fast-tag. Anyway, it was protected within a stronger plastic layer. Later some rubbing alcohol was applied to get rid of the adhesive residue.

Wow!

I wish they had option of this kind of tag, currently it is very distracting.

Are those tags really distracting once you paste behind IRVM? Just wondering how successful everybody will be in doing the process you have mentioned here. I will still go ahead and allow banks to enjoy their promotions free of cost

What you done looks good but you will have to waste a few seconds everytime you go to a toll both which is manned by a guard who checks whether you have the tag before letting you in. You will definitely get a few confused stares.

A colleague had done similar for his Duster with a Fastag from ICICI.

Poor fellow had to order another one as he ended up facing tough time at toll booths where the guards wouldn't let him take the dedicated lane as they never saw any "Fastag" logo.

Looks like only the private use cars have to pay a security deposit of Rs 250 and maintain a minimum threshold of Rs 150. All other categories have to maintain a minimum threshold of Rs 99 and a token security deposit of Re 1 (yes Re 1).

This is probably because the toll paid by vehicles other than private cars is quite high. The major source of revenue is through commercial vehicles.
