My main drive is within city and maybe once in a month toll roads. I dont want to stick the fastag just for a few weeks and have to remove it again. So please advise me what to do. Thank you.
I won't count on GPS based toll system to be implemented and replace Fastag anytime soon (for sure not within few weeks!). So for peace of mind, it's better to have a valid and active tag.

Also, unsolicited advice from personal experience : if you have a chance, then ditch SBI and move to another tag provider. Their service is pathetic when it comes to issue resolution or during tag closure. There is no dedicated customer care and you'll have to run pillar to post, in case you need any support.

I was given the SBI tag by the dealer. I did not face much issues so far, recharges were quick and when needed to see transactions their web interface was 'usable'. It was not good looking but got the job done. I see the balance in the Samsung Pay app.

Though I haven't travelled in many highways, this was my limited experience. Any particular recommendation from you for a better Fastag provider? I saw the thread for Fastag and many voted for ICICI.

Since you are going to order tag replacement due to windshield replacement, you can experience SBI support first hand. If you are satisfied then you can continue using the tag. There is no issus as long as the tag works but it is a pain should one need any support or issue resolution from SBI.

ICICI is recommended as they have good customer support. Also, in case you happen to have icici bank account then tag can be ordered via netbanking with the account KYC (account owner and vehicle owner name has to match, of course).
If you use Amazon pay often then there is Amazon+ICICI Co branded tag which can be linked to Amazon Pay balance.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

I need a new Fastag urgently for a trip this Saturday.

Now banks typically have an online application followed by physical delivery that takes a few days. None of the banks seems to have an immediate OTC option.

I understand one can get it immediately at certain toll plazas. Is anyone here aware of any toll plaza near Chennai (preferably on the Chengalpattu highway or ECR) where one can get a Fastag immediately?

I contacted my dealer RM who was ready to help in getting a replacement, but I wanted to see how the experience is, working with SBI directly for a replacement. So I have raised a request through their online portal and received acknowledgement also yesterday. Lets see how long it takes. I am not planning for any highway trips anytime sooner so not worried about getting one asap.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Received a sms from my tag provider (KVB bank). My car/tag completed 3 years recently (dealer provided tag). I had already submitted my RC copy within a few weeks of getting the tag.

Is it common to receive such intimation ?

What's REKYV (assuming it to be re-KYC but just in case there is some new terminology I'm not aware of) ?

What do they mean by "Sidewise image with axile and tag"?

Looking at the typos, wondering if it is even a genuine message ?

----------------
Dear Customer, as per NPCI guidelines REKYV process to be completed for your Vehicle (xxxx), visit the nearest KVB branch for REKYV updation along with KYC Documents, front side image of wind shield with tag affixed, Sidewise image with axile and tag before 15-NOV-2024 to prevent Tag Hotlist-KVB.
---------------

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

My new car came with an IDBI fastag about couple of months back and every toll plaza that I have crossed so far shows it as blacklisted. I have tried talking to the bank and the NHAI helpline at 1033 and both of them say that the tag status is active (I have verified on their website to cross-check this). None of them have been able to resolve this strange issue.
Anyone had similar experience and how it was resolved? Any advice if I should get a new one or pursue this further?

It turned out to be genuine message. And yes, Re-KYV was not a typo! It is Know Your Vehicle!

Called up bank customer care, only to be misled that I could email them car images and be done with it. But nothing happened even after few days of sending email. Second time I called them, they said it can only be done at their branch. So decided to visit nearby branch with all possible photos of my car/tag and document copies. At the branch, they asked for few photos to be emailed to their branch mail id: front view, side view and photo of tag on windshield from inside the car. Had to re-send them few times due to size issue and limitation with their server. Also submitted self attested hard copies of my Aadhar and RC. It took them few trials to upload all of those in their system and I had to keep sharing OTP on each try. Finally they said things are done and I'd know in a day or two if their back-end team accepts or rejects my documents. Anyway, I hope it is all in order and I don't have to make another visit.

Really don't understand the whole re-KYC process requirement every few years, for an instrument which is merely used for small ticket transactions at toll plaza/malls etc. Overkill and unnecessary burden on customers if you ask me.

This happened to me once when I did not have sufficient balance, I had recharged the fastag a few minutes before entering the toll booth, but it still showed blacklisted, and the toll booth operator told it takes a couple of hours for the balance to reflect (not sure how true this is.)

Also, the fastag balance that I see on PhonePe and Cred is 200rs more than the actual balance that you see in the messages (not sure why this happens).

If nothing works, I would suggest cancelling this fastag and getting a new one. It is pretty easy and quick to get a fastag through PhonePe.

Fastag

Sorry for posting this in this forum. But I desperately need help with respect to my fast tag. After my father's death in last year , I transferred my vehicle on my Mom's name. Also got a fast tag from hdfc bank on my mom's name. But now my fast tag is blacklisted. The hdfc bank representive is saying that the fast tag is active from our side and is not blacklisted. Also it still is on my father's name. Even after several email's and phone call's the issue is not getting resolved for last 2 month's. Travelling with my family has become a nightmare because of this. Learned member's kindly help me to get this thing solved.

You can cancel the the existing Fastag & get the refund if it had balance in it. Go for a new Fastag ! I think this is the easiest solution.

Couple of years back my fastag started deducting amount saying I have gone through a Toll Gate in Panipat, but in reality I hadn't crossed the Karnataka border itself !. Had to file a dispute with Paytm (Fastag issuer) & retrieved the photo, turned out to be a Swift with HR Reg, but I drive a Polo. Coudn't find the root cause but went for cancelling the Fastag !

One note of caution here, the fastag for my old vehicle was ordered from within ICICI Netbanking as I thought it would make it easier to complete the KYC process for the fastag. While that was true, what I didn't realise that it used the 'account name' not the 'account holder name' and because it is a joint account with my wife, the fastag account was created with the joint account name, which includes my and my wife's first names.

Now when I want to close the fastag account (sold the old car) they are unable to do it as I can't provide any id proof for that name (obviously). Contact centre told me to raise a request for name correction on the fastag account. I raised a request to correct that fastag account name and that too was rejected as I could not provide id proof for the existing fastag account name (because no such person exists). Contact centre said we can't do anything and gave me a email if to write to, which I have now done. Let's see.

So for the new car I went through the ICICI fastag portal and created a new account with a new customer id (and the name correct!).

One good thing with the new ICICI fastag for the new car. On the inside there is a UPI QR code which can be scanned for topping up that fastag account.

If it is working, suggest let it be. It's something on the car, and not used personally regularly (as a personal item)

Not necessarily great. I have had a ICICI Fastag from when Fastag was introduced. I have faced issues and had to escalate when trying to change from single tag account to a CUG (one account, multiple tags), and even when trying to close tags. Like mentioned below:

Since I had a ICICI Fastag account and was ok with the interface (login via OTP etc), I got one for my wife for her car. But after selling the car, even though I have the new owner's details, my request to close was rejected once. Need to try again.

Btw, I think all new tags are coming with the QR code for easy top-up. Other option is to add to any of the payment apps - google pay etc.
