Don't think penalty by itself will work. I myself will pay the penalty (currently it is I believe double the toll amount) rather than be stuck in the toll booth queue for a long time.

I was thinking of an arrangement like this: Let the left extreme two lanes be for Fastag and oversized vehicles. if a non-fastag vehicle enters these lanes, the barriers arrange themselves so (either automatically or manually) that the vehicle has to loop around and join the same carriageway about 500m - 1km behind the toll booth.

Edit: For the KIAL return runs - how much are your tag accounts charged?

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

I got an SMS from SBI stating **** is login and xxxx is password of fastag account with SBI.
Fact is i did not apply for any fastag token.
Then i checked SBI NETC website.

Under fees and charges it is mentioned that
1. Applicable taxes will be levied on all type of top ups and transactions.
2. A minimum convenience fee will be levied for all kind of transactions

It implies, one has to pay service tax @15% and also a convenience fee also
If one adds all these actual toll will be toll+15% service tax + convenience fee.

Here is the detail I got from them-

Process for Recharge:
Step 1: Customer can log in to his Internet Banking
Step 2: Create Beneficiary for Other Bank Transfers / NEFT
Step 3: Enter the following details
Name: Customer Name
Account Number: Please enter your Complete WALLET ID
IFSC: UTIB0000ETC
Amount: Amount that needs to be recharged
Step 4: Initiate Payment for this Beneficiary.
While adding the payee for NEFT, I am required to specify the account type, which I guess should be CURRENT. Please confirm.

As far as I can tell, it does not matter what you choose in that field. In any case, for most banks the account number encodes the account type.

But yes, it should be a Current Account.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

From my recent trip to Kerala, FasTag worked flawlessly between Vikravandi & Samayapuram. The rest of the toll gates between Chengalpet & Vikravandi, didn't accept Fastag.

When I came from Muvattupuzha and joined NH-47, though I entered Fastag lane in Vytilla junction, no one manually scanned the bar code nor there was any automatic scanner. I was just allowed to pass thru'

Sadly none of the toll gates between Madurai (Thirumangalam Bypass) to Trichy NH-45B accept Fastag :(

₹85 at Devanahalli toll plaza. Those coming from Hyd side skips this toll through a dedicated lane.

Yes, that's what it looks like. But those paying cash pay Rs. 125, don't they?

Anyway the Devanahalli plaza Fastag lane is a sham. It is permanently closed; you have to go through the regular lanes and pray to the Fastag gods that the booth in-charge is so inclined to use the handheld scanner rather than abuse you and demand cash. Three trips so far in April; same story always. The guard says "Fastag server down, sir". Thinking of escalating this somewhere.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Got Fastag from Devanahalli toll booth on Saturday. The tag got activated immediately. Tested the tag at Hoskote toll booth and it worked. Recharged the account also.

Call up Srinath to confirm whether he is available before going. I planned to go last week but he was not available.

Used fastag at 5 toll booths on way to Chikamagalur. Worked flawlessly at all the booths.
From the experience among my friend circles, ICICI issued tag are more reliable and success rate of detection is very high compared to tags issued by other banks

I had raised complaint with toll office manager 3 weeks ago and he promised to fix but that did not happen in real. I will be raising a complaint with NHAI today.

I have a different problem. I paid Rs.1500(Big mistake) to Umesh from Axisbank sahaj by Cash and submitted all the documents on 21st Feb.

Extremely poor experience with Axis Bank and fastag. Please avoid at all costs.
So finally, after escalating the matter to their customer service and one senior person from Axis bank, my wallet got credited with the amount of cash I had paid to the agent.
I returned from KIAL last Sunday, but the ETC lane was flooded with non-etc vehicles. So just paid cash in another lane and moved on. Not yet tested if it works, but the Tag reflects the correct balance online.

The tag works fine and is read fine but many tollbooths need to get their act together.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Couple of months i had registered a complaint with "Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS)" about allowing non-Fastag cars in fastag lane, where manager of the tool both told me they dont have such instruction from govt. I got detailed investigation and instructions to all 4 toll booths to not to allow non-fastag unless on emergency or rush time. Please find the attachments of complaint and resolution details. I was amazed to see how deep they have gone and investigated and also sent instruction to follow the rules to allow only Fastag vehicles in that lane.

Hope changes have been made to this in these toll boths, if not i would suggest you guys also raise such complaints till they get follow these rules.
