Ola Share expanded to 3 new cities, rates slashed by 45%

App-based taxi aggregator firm - Ola has announced the expansion of its 'Share' service to three new cities - Chandigarh, Jaipur and Ahmedabad. With this new addition, Ola Share is now available in 10 cities across the country. The company has also slashed fare charges of the ride-sharing service by up to 45%. The reduced rates are applicable across all cities where the Share feature is operational.

Till now, the Ola Share service was available in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune. The slashed fare charges have resulted in an effective rate of around Rs. 3 per km in all these cities.

Ola Share allows customers to book a cab ride and share it with other commuters that are looking for a cab for the same route, thus splitting the overall travel cost. It even lets customers choose whom they want to share the ride with, by creating groups based on their location, workplace, gender, etc. The app then matches the rides only with members of the same group.

Ola claims that in addition to it being an economical way of travelling, the Ola Share feature has also helped in reducing over 48 lakh kilograms of carbon emissions, and has saved more than 20 lakh litres of fuel in the last 8-10 months of operations.

Ride-sharing on these taxi services is ridiculously cheap. A cousin who lives off Carter Road has to commute to Tardeo for work. He has an Innova & i20 in the garage, but got fed up of driving in rush-hour traffic.

He's a loyal Uber Pool user since the service started. Pays merely ~120 bucks or so for the commute in an Innova. The Sealink toll alone is 60 / 90 (one way & return)! Says the process of picking up / dropping fellow occupants is hassle-free. He chills on the captain seat and completes his calls on the way to work.
