With a disclaimer that I can't vouch for the authenticity of the video posted below, I must tip my hat in respect to the good Samaritans who dived into the water to rescue the woman trapped in the car.

The News Minute reports that the incident took place yesterday evening in Nayandahalli, Bengaluru.

On a non serious note, a friend commented on WhatsApp that Bendakaluru (the place of the boiled beans) has now become Nendakaluru (a drenched place) as a result of incessant rains. (Sounds far better and effective when rendered in its original form in Kannada)

Thanks for sharing, dailydriver! This video definitely deserves its own thread, so moving it out.

A longer and much clearer video of the same incident has been shared by bhpian sbalagru6 in the "Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation" thread. Here it is:

All's Well That Ends Well. But very interesting human behavior in times of crisis. I wonder how I would have reacted as a bystander.

From the background chatter, it looks like the bystanders were aware that a lady was stuck inside. But they were worried about water depth and deep ditch/open manhole. Looks like nobody knew how to swim. But all it took was for one guy to gather courage and wade in. Within 10 seconds, four others waded into the water and managed to get to the woman.

Did some Google search. Flotation of car in flood waters depends on -

- Weight of car (not that important, but still a factor)
- Depth of water (huge difference between knee deep and waist deep water)
- Flow of water (massive difference between 2 kph water flow and 5 kph water flow)

Faith in humanity restored. Its good to see such citizens come forward at the times of adversity.

Time has again showed us that it's the push that one person does that gets others to join in. This can be observed on the signals as well. Especially early mornings - if I am the only one to stop for the Red light, slowly others stop as well.

For those not familiar with Bangalore / this part of Bangalore:

That spot may be the intersection of Mysore Road and Outer Ring road. The lower level ( of total 3) is such that all four directions of the road go upwards from the intersection point. Hence water is going to flow down from all 4 directions towards this point.
There is a big storm water drain that goes parallel to Mysore Road too.

One of the factors here is that the lady was not aware that in case of being surrounded by water like this, it is better to abandon the car. If ever the car was to have been washed away, she wouldnot have been able to get out. It is vey difficult to open the door of a car under water, due to the pressure that the water will exert from outside.

Thanks, Cat !

For the intended audience of this pic:
The upper track / path is the Metro + over-pass
The guy in the helmet, from where the pic was taken is the middle level, which crosses the Mysore Road

The lower section is the interchange / intersection between Mysore Road & Ring road.
