Its time for our Government to provide incentives for sterilization. Reducing the country's population is the only solution for us to improve our quality of life. I would gladly do it for a lifetime 50% discount on Income tax and GST :D

In my view the Sealink, even in morning peak hour, makes immense sense. It saves you at least 5-8 minutes per the OP's stats, has lower variability than the alternate routes, and is a less stressful drive. Is that worth ₹60. Definitely. Also for those who travel both ways on a day, the cost of the south bound journey is just ₹30 - and the north bound journey certainly saves you 20+ minutes. If you have the ETC tag, there is another 5 minutes saved each way. That's ₹ 90 for 30 minutes a day - for anyone who earns more than ₹360,000 for 2000 hours of work a year and values leisure at his or her wage level, it is a great deal.

Do we need more such roads? Yes. The coastal road would be good, but we also need better east west links - alternatives to Elphinstone and Currey Road for those heading from Parel to Worli, a flyover over 60 feet road in Dharavi and one on Sion Mahim Link Road, apart from the BKC links that have been promised but not implemented. Some of these are cheap as well - and should have been implemented 10 years ago.

I would differ a bit from the general opinion and say that Mumbai does not need more such projects. Instead it needs better public transport which will help to decongest roads. Good AC public transport like metro, BRTS and also seaways is more necessary. More roads will only trigger more cars to be brought out on the road

Its not as simple as we think. First, Mumbai port has no space. Its quite overloaded as is. Adding a fleet of water buses will conjest a narrow channel further. Its like saying lets start air taxi services to small towns using piston planes from mumbai airport. Simply not possible.
Secondly, the creeks north (vasai) and south (thane) are not very deep and are tide driven. This makes all day navigation impossible unless we build locks (very expensive). Lastly, for 4 months of monsoon the seas are too rough for navigation.

If more and more such projects will be constructed, same level of congestion will return after few years, so its not a solution to build more and more roads.

NCR has good road network but facing problem of pollution.

Also We can not completely neglect the impact on environment, even though some impact is inevitable.

The only option is "decongest" city, and try to develop tier 2 and tier 3 cities more, and try to move away activity from bigger cities to smaller cities.

Also developing "Green" public transport is another option.

A little OT to the subject but still relevant.

Most mumbaikars would agree with me.

The biggest cause of jams is the illegal parking and double parking (here the biggest offenders are the so called socialites who's drivers in the fancy cars will wait right outside the high end designer boutiques for madam - who will in turn take to Twitter to complain about bad traffic and how organised Paris was when she went for a haircut).

Have you noticed during VIP movements when parked cars are cleared from the roads and there is no double parking the traffic (or rather vehicles) moves extremely fast?

My opinion is that though coastal roads or RoRo ferries are the future, basic policing will also go a long way.
