The idea is that, why should they wait? They after all are a 'superior' species. Same's the case with MLA & MPs also. Just entitlement. First a government bungalow, a heft salary, hefty perks, post retirement perks - The common man has so far accepted this as fate.
Now that most people have cars, how do our 'lordships' differentiate with the mango man? They want to not wait at toll and not show their ids! I love my India!

"In a bid to put an end to VIP culture, the government on Wednesday issued an order prohibiting the use of red beacons on all vehicles belonging to VIPs, ministers and lawmakers.
According to the new regulation which comes into force on May 1, only the President, Vice President, Prime Minister,
Chief Justice of India and the Speaker of Lok Sabha are exempt from the ban."
Chief Justice J S Khehar
set an example for other judges by implementing on Thursday the Centre’s decision to curb VIP culture by banning use of red beacon atop official cars irrespective of the Constitutional post held by the person.

Two judges at HC level have made a mockery of themselves and the institution.:Frustrati
I do not think courts can issue such orders suo moto. Courts have no jurisdiction over such matters unless a precedent is set by judgement in a case. This is a byproduct of various petitions by and against highway operators on various subjects. Often locals staying in the vicinity of toll plazas will seek exemptions from paying toll, while highway operators also at times do not get their legitimate dues from State Transport Corporations whose buses may be refusing to pay toll. Cases could be about toll plazas creating traffic jams etc.
This order seems to be a case of taking advantage of petitions to appropriate privileges for your own creed. Having said that, it is possible that many judges do not agree with the order and are unhappy about how it reflects upon the larger fraternity.
The Union government has already decided to challenge the order. Though I am no legal eagle, I feel the sheer arbitrariness and far reaching implications of such an order make it very difficult to implement, notwithstanding Madras HC's grandstanding using tools like 'contempt of court' etc.

Thank you Malyaj. Clearly the most sensible post on the thread. Thanks.
If tolls are so annoying for them why not remove all the tolls?
