New toll policy: Pay fee only for the stretch you use

Under the new policy, people will pay toll only for the stretch they travel and not for the entire corridor between two existing toll plazas.

Highways ministry sources said the policy will be dynamic and will focus on pushing electronic mode of collecting user fee.

Quote:
The government has started work to revamp the toll policy for national highways, primarily focussing on a new regime of making people pay the toll or user fee only for the stretch they travel and not for the entire corridor between two existing toll plazas, which is the practice now.
Quote:
The policy, which will be ready in three months, will also focus on building toll plazas outside cities to avoid protests and to set a time frame to end tolling on highways which are less than four-lane and expressways.

re: New toll policy: Pay fee only for the stretch you use

This has been reported in the news a few months back also. Haven't seen any action at all on the ground towards this end. Hope to see some action on this, other than just publicity.

How are they going to monitor and regularize this? Will it be similar to how the toll is collected on the Ahmedabad - Vadodara expressway? We have different rates for folks exiting on Nadiad, Anand, Vadodara etc.

^^^
If so, we are going to see a spate of litigation. It would be changing the terms of the contract for the concession holders.

Yes, Something like that.
I think our Ahmedabad ring road is a perfect example of zone wise toll. However, that's zone/corridor between two plazas. I am not able to understand how they will charge vehicles only for the stretch they travel and not for the entire corridor between two existing toll plazas.

Re: New toll policy: Pay fee only for the stretch you use

This is how they are planning to implement this. It is going to implement at Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway from 15-Dec.

Quote:
Motorists will be issued a ticket when they enter the expressway through any of the 10 entry-exit points along the 135.6km-long stretch between Palwal and Kundli. They will have to produce the ticket at the exit point and pay a toll for the distance travelled on the expressway. A commuter will be issued a ticket when it enters expressway through any of the 10 entry-exit points along the 135.6km-long stretch between Palwal and Kundli. He will have to produce the ticket while leaving the expressway and pay the toll as per the distance covered on the expressway.

Cars will be charged at Rs 1.35/km, light motor vehicles Rs 2.18/km, while trucks and buses will be taxed at Rs 4.98/- Therefore, a car drive between Kundli and Manesar will cost around Rs 116. Similarly, one driving a light motor vehicle will have to pay Rs 187 for the same distance.

Toll may rise or fall but will Never end : Minister

Quote:
Ministry has set a four-month deadline for 100% tolling by Fastag or other digital mode to make travel hassle free at toll plazas
