Massive fire at the parking lot at Aero India 2019

There is currently a massive fire raging at the Air show in Bangalore. Over 150 cars have been burnt as per TV9.
Two theories are going around as of now. TV9 says that it is due to the dry grass. Apparently, the grass cutting and management is itself a big task that was contracted to some company.

Another theory doing rounds (on whatsapp) is that one of the cars has a cylinder that burst.

Either way, its surprising to me that so many cars are burnt - does it mean we have such a huge lack of fire-control at these big gatherings?

Is there any thing obvious that cars lack, which could have prevented this?

Any thoughts on how the insurance claims will be treated? Is it going to be no-brainer, or does it depend on the clauses selected when taking out the insurance policies?

Re: Pics: Accidents in India

Well over a 100 cars seem to have been partially, or fully burnt in the Aero India parking lot as per my source. Being an aviation nut, a known person has parked his car at the lot as well, yet to see if his car is affected as there is quite a bit of chaos. Cars that aren't very close to the source of the fire are being evacuated, rest is wait and watch progress.

In all about 150 cars should be scrap metal after the flamed are doused. Personally I never got the logic of going all the way to north Bangalore, paying money for tickets only to watch planes buzzing by (if we can sit in them for the ride that's altogether another thing and worth it).

About time Aero India is put to an end, waste of jet fuel and waste of time, much like the cake show which is a waste of tons of sugar and dough. Yes two of Bangalore's iconic shows shall be missed (I've gone to see them as a kid myself), but those days the times were different and today there are much better things to do with one's time and money. This fire incident will cost the insurance sector no less than 10-15 crores, not to mention the destruction of perfectly good cars that could've run another 10 years.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I had visited on Thursday when the crowd was small. The designated parking lot was in an open area which had become a bed of dry grass in this season. Dry grass and wind has resulted in the fire spreading to a large area. Feel really sorry for everyone concerned :(

Heart breaking scenes being shown on TV. Hundreds of cars have been burnt, some beyond recognition. One particular blast, speculated to be from a LPG fitted vehicle, is said to have contributed to the escalation of the fire. Thankfully, no one seems to be injured.

The Fire and Emergency services have segregated some cars by breaking their glasses, releasing the handbrakes and towing them away from the scene of tragedy.

Public TV Kannada is saying that a cigarette butt could have sparked off the fire. Dry grass, tyres, cylinders, rexin, petrol, diesel - deadly combination.

An airshow that shouldn't have been!

re: Massive fire in the parking lot at Aero India 2019 (Bangalore)

This happened in Parking Lot 5. My neighbour and I had parked there yesterday. Most of the cars belongs to Air Force guests and exhibitor staff. There was a lot of dry grass and a lot of drivers smoking around there. The driver who took us there mentioned this to us. Add the fact that it was extremely windy out there, it was a disaster waiting to happen.

Thankfully, it was 2 km away from the actual airbase. I feel sorry for the folks who will need to process a claim and get home as this place is far.

Which BHP'ian is this? I hope you are safe

Really hope at the end of the day or weekend we find no one got injured in this scary situation. Drivers tend to doze off inside the car, hope no such cases today.

This year is a blot of sorts on Aero India.

Good Luck with insurance claims!

re: Massive fire in the parking lot at Aero India 2019 (Bangalore)

I just hope everyone is fine, and no one is hurt. But extremely a sad sight to see all beauties are departing..

On a logical topic, the ASS, Bangalore branch of Insurance companies will now filled up with applications. Hope they are equipped with sufficient manpower to handle all the cases and owners will face less hardship. Of course FIR & all other docs are required to close the case but hope it will be smooth

Also, I am bit confused how so many cars got affected by fire within no time? I mean it takes time to spread, how fire on cars were unnoticed when number was near 3-4. Something fishy, isn't it?

Though initial report is coming like this:-

One of the person who was interviewed by TV9 in the link above was telling that initially only 4-5 cars caught fire and within 5 minutes spread rapidly and the fire fighters arrived only after 20 minutes. These witnesses showed presence of mind by breaking the car glass, releasing hand brakes and moving the cars away from the fire.
