Getting car-sick when in a vehicle that I am not driving depends on what I am doing in the car:

If I am concentrating on the road ahead [passive driving - doing everything but actually controlling the car], then I am fine.

If I am sleeping, I am fine

If I am trying to do anything else - like reading, looking out of the windows etc, I will at some point, get car-sick. This depends on how smooth the driving is. Smoothness, as determined by smoothness in acclerating, braking, swerves etc. I get sick much quicker when my seating position has me facing a direction other than the direction of travel [especially sitting side-ways etc].

My comfort level with some one else driving depends on his/her driving ability and style. It does help when I am comfortable about that person's driving. But if I am constantly thinking and checking his/her driving, then my tolerance dips pretty fast.

ohc rear seat mystery

hi friends i have experienced strange problem in my old honda city rear seat . the passenger sitting in rear seat experience headache and even vomit. this has been notified by me for around 90% of the back seaters.one of my friend complained me that he feels to vomit when i accelerate hard . what could be the problem . i think it could be due to the soft suspension problem. at last i am starting this thread after a long observation.plz help me out with the cause . i have also read a thread on a skoda octavia with similar problem

Thats strange. Why don't you let someone else drive, sit in the rear seat and check for yourself. You might be a better judge to identify the problem.

Take it to a competent garage and ask him to take a look at the suspension. Could be that the shocks/dampers are shot.
How much has the car run ? When was the last time you got the suspension overhauled / re torqued ?

do u use car perfumes by any chance ?
quite a few people feel that with the car perfumes. at least i feel a bit suffocated with it.
also, i did feel similarly in my friends corolla(though not vomitting and all) when we were car pooling. so i used to tell him to turn off the AC and i used to feel better. but same feeling not there in my BIL's corollo.. strange ;-)

try a few times without AC and see...(if it is possible) .. or maybe problem with the AC, circulating stale air.. get it checked.

Either your driving style, or the OHCs soft suspension. If the current setup has run over 40K, time to get an overhaul.

I remember reading a thread like this on this forum - trying to dig it out. Not sure if it was a city or something else.
Found a few other threads that may help you
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/shifti...-car-sick.html
I'll post more if I find them

Maybe it is the Skoda Laura that someone posted about? (RanjithBalan?)
Similar issue.

Yes it was the skoda laura in the thread - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...-problems.html.

I must add here that only one lady complained of nausea etc. that too while sitting in the front seat of my Laura. I later learnt that she does not discriminate between cars - she is car sick after about 15 mins in any car!

I have noticed that people can get car sick in any car. Sitting upright and looking out (preferably ahead) does reduce the nausea etc.

Cheers,
