Delhi cabbies fined if their first aid kit doesn’t have a condom?

https://www.news18.com/amp/news/auto...x-2317763.html

As the article points out the motor vehicles act doesn’t say anything about condoms, just that the first aid kit has to contain bandages, disinfectant etc.

Even the cops have no idea why a condom must be carried - but are quite glad to fine cabbies for not carrying one.

From my experience of driving a car with a leaking fuel primer bulb, a condom is like first aid, especially if you own a Duster.

Some survival kits have those in them. Mechanics have found innovative uses for condoms in temporary fixes for automobile leaks & breakages. Maybe, it could be used as an emergency tourniquet too.

Condom as a tourniquet? Weird but Ok I guess. If it were for automotive leaks I would recommend putting them with your jack and other tools right?

OT - I have tried this, and it is not easy. Rather difficult. Using a condom to fix a leak is fine for fixed width tubes. But for anything like a primer bulb - no. With the shape of the bulb, the condom wont remain in place. Even if one were to wash it to remove the lubricant coating.

Way back in 1983, I was on a TTC bus from Trichy to Coimbatore; the crew discovered a diesel leak somewhere after Karur.

The crew bought a pack of Nirodh from a wayside store at Vellakoil, wrapped one around the leaky pipe joint, and the bus went all the way to Gandhipuram (Coimbatore) without fuss.

They did lift the bonnet and inspect the leaky joint at times but all was well.

We have also done this. But the primer bulb and and a joint/pipe are two different things.

condoms come handy in situations where someone breaks a bone or suffers a cut. “In case a person starts bleeding, the condom can be used to stop it. Similarly, if someone has a fracture, a condom can be tied around the area until he reaches a hospital,” he said earnestly. There are nonmedical benefits of condoms as well, Gill added. “It can hold up to three litres of liquid”.

Looks like a fake thing, here is what the officials have to say from the same link. I think, it must have started by NGO's explaining them benefits, this challan stuff is BS.

No driver is asked if he’s carrying condoms during fitness t ..

Mod Note: The News18 article is clearly click-bait. Closing thread.
