A novel way but ...
Why should civic authorities be bothered?
They are not elected official with a limited term.

Civic authorities won't bother from a duty-bound or ethical viewpoint (as they have neither a sense of duty nor ethics), but rather the way Baadal Nanjundaswamy forced some of them to fix up the mess, it has the power to catch up on social media and name-shaming / forcing them to mend their mess !?
If I were aware of the locality these couple are shooting around, I could post this on twitter/fb and tag the area's civic authority, no !?
Just wondering... maybe wishful thinking that they atleast have some shame left

In the books the roads may have been paved multiple times and 'commission' may have been palmed of! No couple shoot or accidents will move the officials, they have 'hide' as thick as a 'rhino' and insatiable appetite for ill gotten ₹!

They will, if we give our support to the couple's initiative. We should be joining them by clicking our own pics and posting them on social media or the least we should be tagging their posts in our feeds and give them maximum exposure.

Recently I came across a heartbreaking story of a father from Mumbai who lost his 16 year old son to a road accident caused by a pothole. The father has been regularly filling potholes since last 4 years. Should we wait for something to happen to our near and dear before we start doing our bit, or start actively supporting a noble cause started by the praise-worthy couple?

Re: Novel Couple Photoshoot on potholed roads to grab the attention of the Government

Pressure groups can be a good idea to seek attention of civic authorities than a couple.
Pressure groups try to make the government more attentive to the needs of the people. Because as groups with many members sometimes nationally spread, they command more respect than individuals who may be fighting for similar causes.
They help to integrate the differing interests of various groups in the society into a manageable whole. With this, the government’s attention to these needs will be more focused and effectively addressed.

Honestly, this has become too boring now and everyone wants to do it to be there in the limelight that at times I feel these couples carry a sickle and a bucket of water, dig that road, pour that water and execute that novel photoshoot.

Despite several attempts by citizens and the media, many of them novel and innovative, they don't seem to have caught the attention of the government, at least we haven't seen it result in any concrete action on the ground yet.

True, if the authorities really had any concern/shame/ethics at all, Bangalore roads wouldn't be in the mess they're currently in, they seem simply beyond redemption at the moment!

I hope once the upcoming bypolls are over, roads will start getting relaid/patched and improved in an "urgent" mode. Heck, some of the roads in the city look like they were devastated by war and rioting on the roads

Re: Novel Couple Photoshoot on potholed roads to grab the attention of the Government

Guys I think roads are bad PAN India. Here in Kanyakumari the NH itself has gotten so bad that one youngster made a video song about it which went viral. But even that was not enough for them to fix the road, they just did a shoddy job in some bits and patches.

Maybe we could start a separate thread and all of us could post which is the worst road in each district or town. Team-bhp server might just crash, sorry for that idea

I won't be surprised to see them as some guest panelists in some local news channel or some reality show.
Sigh! What all people do for publicity !

Re: Novel Couple Photoshoot on potholed roads to grab the attention of the Government

If this couple had uploaded those photos on BMC’s Pothole tracking system, they would have earn the prize money of Rs.6500/-(Rs.500/Photo). The BMC (BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation) last week announced the Pothole Challenge-2019 in which civic staff will address the Pothole complaint within 24 hours. As per TOI’s news, more than 12 Mumbaikars received the Rs.500/- in these seven days. After one RJ compared the Mumbai roads with moon, the Civic body came with this idea.

Not only Mumbai roads but roads across India are in bad shape. Whom to blame for this situation? No answer. And some of the opportunist people make use of this situation for personal gain and TRP.

Re: Novel Couple Photoshoot on potholed roads to grab the attention of the Government

Interesting and unique idea indeed.

We have seen all kinds of things being done with potholes to attract the authorities attention, including a moonwalk. Hope authorities learn from all this to ensure that our roads are smooth and pothole free. In the end, all these novel ideas just end up bringing a bad name to the contractor, not that they care anyway.

Just like we saw with the moonwalk video, once (and only if) these pictures go viral, these roads maybe repaired almost immediately. It wonderous how something that is left unattended for long can immediately be repaired as soon as things go viral.

On a side note, I recently saw a comical Kannada video where the reporter promised to take a few bikers for an off-road trip and ended up taking them to a pothole-ridden road. And then asked them for their experience. Will hare when I find the video.

Re: Novel Couple Photoshoot on potholed roads to grab the attention of the Government

Going by the registration number of the vehicles in the pictures this is somewhere in Karnataka, most likely in Bangalore. If that's the case, I think all of us Bangalorians here can vouch for the fact that it's a true depiction of the dismal state of affairs.

And not just this couple, many people are protesting in their own ways via social media etc. For instance, the group 'Whitefield Rising' recently held a protest in Marathahalli against civic apathy in Mahadevapura area. Some other group asphalted the road that leads to their homes by spending money from their own pockets.

BBMP is currently busy patching up at least some of the roads that have been in deplorable state, but it's quite evidently a shoddy job that's going to undo itself latest by the next monsoon. Heck, even inside the tech park that I work in, the roads are riddled with innumerable potholes.
