BMW stolen while drunk man stops to urinate. EDIT: It's a fraud (page 2)

Some unidentified people allegedly fled with a BMW car after the man driving it pulled up to urinate on a roadside, Noida police said on Sunday.

According to officials, the incident happened on Saturday night in Sector 90 under Phase 2 police station limits, when Rishabh Arora, a stock broker, was returning in the car from a party in an inebriated condition.

Asked if the stock broker would be charged for drunken driving, Mr Chander told news agency PTI: "The priority is to recover the BMW and ensure arrest of the culprits. It's a serious concern that somebody's car gets stolen like this on city roads."

Mr Arora has alleged in his complaint that the men, who had arrived on a motorcycle, had put a gun on his back while he was relieving himself but that claim is yet to be verified since he was "highly drunk", according to officials.

Prime facie, it appears the robbery was planned by someone who is known to the car's owner, Mr Chander said.

In a nutshell - for once a deserving candidate paying the price of a crime! Urinating on roadside (we Indians seem to love this activity) after drunken driving. While the crime is not justified, I find peace in the fact that at least a miscreant himself fell victim to the crime, rather than a law abiding mango-person.

As per the police report above, drunken driving is not a serious crime. A stolen BMW is!
Looks like 1 BMW is of more value than many lives lost due to drunken driving!!

Could be a case of insurance fraud, one article mentioned an outstanding amount of 40 lacs

The drunk driver didnt cause any harm to anyone, atleast till the car was stolen - they cant arrest him without proof of him driving!
Nevertheless, there is a lesson for everyone in this! We are being watched by thieves - always plan a taxi if you want to go for a drink!

Well, rather than a theft, it's actually a crime aborted, isn't it? A drunk in a BMW is typically not foreboding of a quiet drive home In India, is it?
Social service, that is!

The fact that man was drunk and has stopped to urinate doesn't dilute the crime of car getting stolen at gunpoint. Have read about numerous incidents of people getting robbed while stopping at late hours for whatever reasons. If returning late night, I make sure not to even slow down till the apartment gates are reached.

I'm not sure the insurance company is going to pay up knowing this guy was driving drunk & left his car on the road with the keys in it!

Why can't they look for the stolen car and book the drunk driver? What's one got to do with another?

That must be the highest fine paid for drunk driving + urinating in public

I hope it's not a case of insurance fraud. If it isn't, I'd say justice is done. The man was driving drunk and would get back either his damaged/abused car or an insurance payout after a lot of hassle.

On a lighter note, it reminds me of Vadivelu's comedy scene:

Simple translation: Vadivelu explains to his assistants that the area is where people stop to relieve themselves. As soon as the man starts attending nature's call, the trio steals the car. He justifies his crime by explaining to his assistants that the victim will get a payout from insurance and the police will find the car once they desert it somewhere.

That's a golden rule I also tell people to follow. I've heard a couple of stories of friends getting robbed after stopping after believing that random people pointing out at a broken part.

Insurance company will reject the claim saying it was negligence on part of the driver to leave an idling car unattended.

I read in one article that it's not even his car. It belongs to his Brother-in- law and he had been using it for the past week.

The owner has a loan of 40 lakhs remaining to be repaid which he had taken for the car.

Perfect gift given to the irresponsible driver for intoxication and public urination.

No sympathy.

It's called KARMA and it's pronounced as HA-HA-HA-HA
