Slightly off topic but am curious to know what sort of FE you got n your Kicks and also which version you drive. I ask as I too own Kicks 1.3 Turbo Automatic and on the Mumbai-Pune expressway the best I have ever got is 14.7 |
Hi, I am yet to do the drive on Samruddhi expressway. On Mumbai Pune expressway I get somewhere around 18-19 kmpl. Mine is Kicks Diesel manual.

I think by this time rains should hit some part of Maharashtra.

Agreed with the above post. I got onto the highway following google map directions. But, I drove slow since I was unsure and expecting blockage. If you drive Sinnar-Shirdi, do drive carefully. Incidentally, RTO officers are checking cars at Shirdi interchange. They made sure that my tyres are fine. They asked about whether I am well rested. Also they gave me a flyer with helpline number in case I need it. It is great to see pro active officials. |
So where exactly is the entry onto the Samruddhi. I’ve tried looking for it on the Map My India Map and attached an image as I see it. If the thin yellow line is the Samruddhi, is the entry where the two seem to intersect
Looks like the speed interval system has been activated now:
https://www.timesnownews.com/mumbai/...e-99635262/amp The officials also placed surveillance measures on the expressway to check overspeeding. The officials are recording the time of the entry of vehicles into the expressway and the exit time. They analyse the average speed and if it was more than the permissible speed limit (120 kmph), the exit gates will get locked automatically and a siren is played, the officials told the media.
Now an extra worry is people speeding and then parking on the side to ensure they don't get fined at the exits.

This basic check has been present on Mumbai Pune EWay for ages. The simplest way to duck it is to take a breather at the food plazas. But you end up not saving any time in the journey so might as well slow down slightly and get better mileage.
An average speed of 120 is plenty fast anyways. Driving like a maniac is required to go any faster.

Are you sure about this? The Mumbai-Pune Eway has several different speed limits depending on the section. The maximum speed limit is 100Kph. I do a lot of Mumbai Pune runs and it's usually 35-45 minutes between the 2 toll booths depending on traffic in the Lonavala Ghat. The distance between the 2 toll booths is 50 kms. Going by this, only cars travelling the distance in less than 30 minutes will be fined which is downright impossible to achieve unless one is driving ~200kph on the straights.
Attaching a screenshot of my recent drive back from Pune. I was driving with my parents so did not push my car at all. Just steady cruising with medium traffic all the way.

Thank you very much @RaahmiRathi and @Meer
Finally fulfilled my wish of driving my VW Polo 1.2 Comfortline Petrol on Hindu Hrudayasamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg ( HHBTMSM ) aka Mumbai--Nagpur Super Communication Expressway. |
Mumbai--Nagpur Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg /Super communication Expressway update :-
Shirdi to Bharvir 80 km stretch is expected to open soon. From what I figured out from this news clip, it is likely that the inauguration would happen on May 1st i. e Maharashtra day.
Eagerly waiting for this one, as it would help my Mumbai--Shirdi trip next month. Getting onto Expressway all the way from Bharvir would mean, just one more hour to Shirdi.

That’s great news. Although, I am due to travel from Mumbai to Shirdi on 29th April lol:
Also, I read somewhere that Sinnar to Shirdi is going to be open for public around 30th April. I don’t know how true it is!

Hi all, I will be doing a Mumbai Pench run through Samruddhi in first week of May. However, the heat plus news of tyre blasts on the new expressway has got me worried. A short drive within the Mumbai city got the temperature of one of the tyres up to 50 degrees. Attachment 2439419
While I have done wheel alignment and balancing to err on the caution side. Also, I am going to fill Nitrogen in the tyres to give myself peace of mind. Anything else anyone recommends?
Thanks. |
Hey Sahil am doing the same drive in the 3rd week of May. Hope you will share a note here with your experience, will be helpful.

That's what Vivek posted. On Maharashtra day, Samruddhi will be opened few kms off
Bharvir on Ghoti-Sinnar highway, which is a good 35 km west of Sinnar.
Hi All,
I am planning to travel from Pune to Jabalpur (and beyond) in a few days. I have read through all the comments here, but was still curious, to get the latest update and suggestions for some specific queries I have.
I will be traveling with two kids (5 and 7). The car is fairly new and only run 3500 kms. I already have nitrogen filled. Tyres are almost new and I have a portable inflator too. My doubts/queries are: -
Should I go to aurangabad, and hop on to the samruddhi expressway, or shirdi?
Is there a good hotel and petrol pump for food and fuel just before samruddhi? I hope to reach there at around 10 PM.
Are vehicles checked at night as well, and do they check it at Aurangabad toll? (No issues with checking, just the time spent)
Are there any options for food/snacks/tea on the expressway?
Are there any diversions or repair work still going on?
Does the expressway connect me to the highway that will go to jabalpur or do I need to enter Nagpur city?
Has traffic increased recently and is there a lot of traffic at night? Also I see that the surroundings are fairly deserted so is there regular patrolling at night?
How is the road from Pune to Aurangabad?
We will be 2 adults, 2 kids and some luggage - the pressure recommendation for my car is, I think, 32/33 for 2 people and 41 front and 48 rear for full load(5 occupants and luggage). So is it okay if I keep it at 35 or 36 (dont want it under inflated but dont want a bouncy ride either)
Do we get cell phone network all along?
Thanks and sorry for so many queries. But if someone could shed some light on this, it would help me, as well as keep this thread updated, for other users who may have similar questions.

Try google map from Ghoti to Nagpur and it should take you to the Samruddhi Mahamarg a good 10 kms before Sinnar. Google map directed me onto a narrow mud road through a village 10 kms before Sinnar. After about 500mts of mud road, I entered the Mahamarg.

I can answer some of the questions that you asked.
1) There are petrol pumps before you enter Mahamarg. But plenty petrol pumps along the Mahamarg too (roughly every 100 kms or so). The distance between first petrol pump after Shirdi and second petrol pump is roughly 180 kms as conveyed to me by the RTO officials. So make sure you have enough petrol for 250 kms in the tank.
2) My vehicle was checked at Shirdi interchange. I do not think there checks at any other entry point. In any case, it is hardly 10 minutes. My vehicle entered expressway at around 6pm. Not sure if they check at night.
3) Petrol pumps along the expressway have light food like chips, tea, coffee and cold drinks. No meal facility.
4) No repair work/diversions from Shirdi till Nagpur. Do be aware that there might be stones on the road left behind by stranded vehicles.
5) Not sure whether expressway connects directly to Jabalpur highway. Google map should lead you through the best route.
6) I entered expressway after 6pm and drove almost entire stretch after dark. The visibility is excellent and you can leave your car on cruise control with speed of 120 kmph. The road seemed safe to me. Do take note of the helpline number, although there are patrol vehicles plying the road. In case of vehicle breakdown call the helpline and let them know the nearest kilometer marking.
7) Traffic has increased, but it is still quite empty. On weekends, you will find slightly higher number of cars.
8) I measured my cold tyre pressure at 33 psi (which had increased to 38 at Shirdi when RTO officials measured it and it is normal). Didn't have any problems with that. Please measure tyre pressure when tyres are cold and not after running few kms.
9) Cellphone signal is quite good all along the stretch now.
Basically, drive without much worry in the expressway but with care. Eat you meals before you hit the expressway or pack them and take a meal break at one of the petrol pumps along the way.
Was not able to attach this map screenshot with above post. This screenshot shows the entry to Mahamarg before Sinnar

If you are going on or after 1-May, you can enter at Sinnar (Gonde). No need to drive to Shirdi or Aurangabad.
If you driving via Pune-Aurangabad anyway, there are 2 COCO at Waluj.
There were 6 pumps to be exact on Nagpur-Shirdi. These would be ~ 60-80 km apart. There is one IOCL COCO towards Seoni after Nagpur.
You don't need to enter Nagpur. The Samruddhi end point is the ring road.
No food options. This for sure you'll have to take care, either before or after the expressway. Budget little over 5 hours to negotiate the Sinnar-Nagpur distance.

I am actually going 1 day before on 30th, so I guess I would be better off going via aurangabad (I live near nagar road).
Thanks Ashlil and Narayans80 for your feedback and recommendations! It is super helpful.

You can choose the Waluj BPCL COCO outlet. It has a restaurant attached. You can make it past the expressway without the need for a food or fuel stop.
