The working hours of IT folks (and other dependent business) are stretching more and more to meet global time zones.

All these things are facilitating such incidents and I keep hearing more and more about them. Incidents on Outer ring road, airport road etc etc.. Earlier such things used to happen only during late night hours, but now everythign is happening during broad day light.

And to top it all up, "Bangalore police!" What is the police doing, ya right Police.. Why should they fall short of minting money and make merry in this IT Boom! They are happily sitting/hiding at one corner of the road waiting for some poor fellow to walk into their trap.. sometimes I really feel like kicking some serious a$$ out of these guys..

Some how I feel that people who can really make a difference are people like us.. the comman man.. but most of the time we end up cribbing .. and nothing more
Very rightly pointed out, with vehicles increasing in this rate i think we can expect things to get worse.

And i think time has come for people like us to act, i dont see any other way to improve the situation.

why to just blame cabbies i have seen many so called educated people creating havoc on road....

that these cabbies/autorikshaw fellas/others are top-of-the-class brutes is beyond doubt. yet, when the heat of the moment has passed and you set down thinking, it's easy to see why things are that way.

they are uneducated. they are not well-off (no education + moneyed = more painful idiots, though). you guys here have a lot of things to which your sense of self-worth is pegged - career, achievements, life... but this unfortunate lot has only one thing on which their self-respect is hinged - brutishness. consider that their entire 'socialising' consists of nothing better than befriending other thugs and seeking vicarious power through the weight of numbers.

quite understandable, i think. but then, what of the many, many brutes of the 'educated' kind - who would have had much more exposure to the finer aspects of life?

Why is this general disdain for the local language ? What language are the cabbies expected to speak in bengalooru? mandarin ? the incident happened in Bengalooru and obviously the local language will be used.

If some one from karnataka has an incident with a cab driver or blue line driver in Delhi , will he oblige you by speaking in kannada ? IMO , You adopt to the place you stay in and not the other way round.

@ jaggu -my sympathies are with you but cab drivers are generally rude and abusive and the phenomenon is not restricted to bengalooru.have seen similar behaviour from call centre cab drivers in Gurgaon and Pune as well.IMHO the use of term "locals" in a derogatory sense is not required.

w12 has a point here.

of course they decide to speak in kannada only. for, doesn't he desire to deliver his choicest stern remarks/abuses in style? why on earth would someone speak in a language uncomfortable to him when it's primarily a verbal dual and a show of strength?

what most people coming to karnataka (and only karnataka in particular) fail to do is learn the local lingo. that's a prerequisite to anyone going anywhere. no linguistic chauvinism here, but a point in practicality.

Very true.

Cabbies are same everywhere, this is not confined to karnataka only.

The only way out for Bangalore's traffic mess is to have a proper, decent public transport system that everyone can use. But the politicians are too busy taking bribes and building their own empires. Rampant corruption at all levels of government is whats eating this place up from the inside.

So, what "action" do you have in mind??

LOL... cabbies in bangalore are saints compared to those in Delhi. Trust me, if someone from Karnataka has an incident with a cabbie in Delhi (or God Forbid Haryana), he will regret stepping out of Karnataka forever!!

yup! i whole-heartedly agree to that. and that's NOT a compliment to either of them. uncultured brutes abound everywhere, but bangalore is surely not the place to find the worst of them.

guess we've got to thank our stars bangalore's not deteriorated to that extent, and get going to work!

i apologize for if my post hurt your sentiments, i was not being regionally biased or anything and i know better, so please dont turn this into one ugly post.

again read 11th post, am asking for ideas for our respective cities, not bangalore alone.

all i wanted to convey was for a person who cant speak the local language its very difficult to manage and yes i also am learning/adapting slowly and amused ydays thugs with few one liners in local language

and for clarification they were much more than rude, they were plain threatening and intimidating, just stopped a few steps before push and show, as if i was not aware of the law of the land or the basic human rights of this country.

again let me not generalize the whole cabbie population but these immature few are good enough to create a stereo type in anybody's mind.

Jaggu, if you can get the details about the software company that actually hires this particular cab, try and get in touch with them and register a formal complaint. You should hit them where it hurts the most..

Sir, my 2 cents. In kannada too the mother & sisters are linguistically brutalised. I can for that matter update your Kannada dictionary with these words if you may so desire.

Infractions: 0/1 (10)

Uh oh! W12 is back again. With talks about locals/non locals etc. Guys lets not have infractions here.

Like gd has pointed out we Kannadiga's too are known to abuse someone else's mothers and sisters.

Also, I don't see a reason why people take such issues personal. I have friends ranging from different castes/communities/regions etc but never ever do I feel they are any different from me. Infact, I used to have a lot of Northy & Muslim friends compared to Southies or Kannadiga's. Don't know why people here tend to get cheezed off at such things.

PS: W12 are you remotely related to Vatal Nagaraj? . Just kidding.
PS 2 : Why don't you try and make it to the meet we are having this saturday?

lol... this is not about how we're all different groups and so, different from each other. this is just about why we should problems with the prospect of people speaking kannada. and that was that - don't think the matter would grow further.

cabbies would do to behave better, but they are not sinning by speaking in their own language, right? anyway, the discussion's veering off-course, so we'd better get back to what can be done - if at all it can, that is.
