Re: Take a look at this number plate!

I was in Kolkata for a day and saw this Swift Dzire with plates which read as "Banonya". Not sure what this signifies.

BA is Broad Arrow indicating military registration

NO NYA means Number not yet assigned. The process can take months.

Is it even legal to drive on public roads without a number being assigned? I doubt.

I cannot speak for all but in my service days there were trucks that were received by units straight from the factory. The registration process took a long time and they would typically run without a plate relying instead on hand painted base identification numbers on the body with similar annotations as the car in the photo above. As far as I recall there were no problems with the civil authorities.

Re: Take a look at this number plate!

Any idea what series is 'BM'. The running series in most of the RTO's in Bangalore is N'x' and after 'N' is done, it should be P.

Has KA-01 exhausted N'x' series? I think KA-03 (which I figured leads all others) is only at NP or so now.

Maybe this is a plate from a yellow-board vehicle converted to a white-board one. Or maybe the plate maker swapped the letters by mistake (it is from the MB series then).

Now, what is this? I see several of these with Zypp branding in East Bangalore.

Corrected my previous post, should have worded it better.

KA03 is going on with NQ now. But the BM didn't makes sense since all the RTO's should move to 'P' after 'N' and this Scorpio is with 'B' which was never a series if I am right. Probably for the yellow boards, but they haven't reached there.

Noticed this non high security number plate on Innova Highcross in Hyderabad financial district. Wondering how a very recent model like Highcross can get a custom number plate. It also had a fancy numbere as icing on the cake🙂

Different Number Plates on Indian Roads

I have had fairly different kind of experiences while traveling across in India. There are variety of number plates that the vehicles use, discarding the state wise registered vehicles. Some are like Army Vehicles, and others are like Bharat Registration. May be the Prime Minister doesn't use any number plate of a sense.

Today, i found a different kind of number plate while traveling in the center of Bangalore. The Image of it is below. How are the traffic police learned about these number plates, and how will they issue tokens for any violations if any?

What are the different kind of number plates that are used in India?

This vehicle belongs to UN.
Blue Number Plates like this are handled via MEA and assigned to Diplomats and UN officials. (You'll see CD/CD/UN which denotes whether they're Embassy/Consulate/UnitedNations). I see them a lot here in NCR.

For traffic regulations: As long as the Vehicle is being driven by the Owner/Diplomat to whom the vehicle belongs, the laws of thier own country applies to them. Basically they are immune to Indian Laws in case they break a local rule and in case of serious offences, they will be treated in thier own country.

You can find more info here:
https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan//...matic-vehicles
In form-42, https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/s...vr/FORM-42.pdf you'll see that the handling is via MEA.
