These tacky and illegal shiny number plates are also quite common in West Bengal. Its absolutely impossible to decipher the numbers even when the vehicle is at a standstill and viewed from a distance. These vehicles should be severely reprimanded!

Similarly I have seen a car in Goa with "Goat. of Goa" in a similar font as "Govt. of Goa". Of course POLITE & POLICY are quite common.

Indian licence plates - Definition

"Military vehicles have a unique numbering system unlike any other licence numbers. The numbers are registered by the Ministry of Defence in New Delhi and appear to have a pseudo-random numbering. The first (or the third) character is always an arrow pointing upwards. The first two digits signify the year in which the Military procured the vehicle."
A slight change in the above statement - An arrow pointing upwards means that vehicle purchased in first 6 months of the year while an arrow pointing downward means vehicle purchased in later half of the year.

So glad i came to this thread. The reason being, i too wanted to change the font on my number plate. Its way to big for a Zen and looks ugly. I wanted to get a cursive script for my number plate, and maintaining the legal font size. Just in cursive writing. Is this allowed/legal/frowned upon? Please advise.

51NGH used to be a popular licence plate in the UK. RTOs in India should start issuing personalized licence plates and charge a fee for the same. This could be revenue generating too.

^^^ This is atrocious; really getting on my nerves; just thinking what happens when these guys are on spot light for an accident, how could they even be traced just by mentioning silver Captiva?

Spotted this Alto in Chennai today with really tiny number plates. Here's a pic of the rear one. The front one was even smaller but couldn't take a photo of that. Also notice the Team-Bhp sticker on the rear boot lid. Some brand ambassador for the forum eh !!

Take a look at this number plate!-alto_small.jpg

It quite clearly is..!

But he's not completely off the mark addressing it as the Alto because its internationally sold as the Suzuki Alto/Celerio/Nissan Pixo. Also A-Star stands for Alto-Star.

By the way its not Alto Star, it was suppose to be star of A segment hence A-Star!!
