I cannot imagine how anyone can even think of defending the absolute trash of an expressway that is the EPE/WPE. I don't know what stone age technology was used to construct it but I am sure even roads of the Harappan times must have been smoother than the EPE.
There are these culvert like things every 300-500 metres and they are not perpendicular to the road and so you cannot even cross them by just slowing down. They are at an angle and the whole car rocks. And, please do not justify it by saying that our mango cars are too poor suspension wise and one needs some luxury barge. It is just a very poorly constructed expressway. Every time I travel on it, paying for the toll makes my stomach churn!
A year or so back, they repaired these culverts and the situation is a lot manageable now and one can easily travel at 80-90kmph with only normal level of discomfort (not comfort). Earlier, it was a lunar surface.
To anyone who asks how is it the cost of construction is increasing and still corners being cut, your answer is - ELECTORAL BONDS - most shameful laundering, bribery, corruption or "wasooli" (whatever you would like to say) legalized scam we ever had!

It's been about 8-9 months since I have driven on DME. I was comfortably able to cruise at ~125kmph (GPS 120) in my Endeavour. Is the road surface so deteriorated now that even Octavia is finding hard to ride flat? That being said, I maintain 100kmph on KMP as 120 isn't safe even in large SUV due to the road surface. |
Unfortunately, yes. I guess that SUVs are better at absorbing the bumps and undulations in the road. My trip to Jaipur in a CRV in march 2023 was quite comfortable, but the last two (Sept 2023 and Feb 2024) in the Octavia were downright scary. I had to keep at max 100 kmph to keep the car from bouncing.
Our Road and Transport Minister traveled on the EPE for an event, and he duly noted the poor quality of the expressway. At the event, he gave a stern warning to blacklist contractors for inadequate upkeep and maintenance, while rewarding those who deliver quality work. Hopeful of repairs and improvement soon.

I would like to travel from Delhi to Durgapur via Lucknow and Varanasi around 15th February. I want to know if it is safe to travel considering the ongoing fog situation. Is there fog expected around mid of February in YEW and ALE?

In mid-Feb there'll be no fog, don't worry.
In any case, drive safely.

There could be some fog in the morning, as the roads pass through fields. In any case it would be wise to observe speed limits and drive carefully.
