kousik, I too faced the same after the Gopalaswamy betta descent...not once but 5 times, first it was cows, then goats, then pigs, then buffaloes and then cows again...Believe me it was huge procession, I had to stop the car in between the herd, luckily no one pushed my car...

Though the cattle may not learn traffic rules, the cow herd atleast should attempt to make way for the vehicles.

On May 31st 2007, I was on my way to Mysore. At around 11:30AM, somewhere near Srirangapatna, I witnessed a ghastly scene. A Bolero had gone into a herd of sheep - sheep were crossing the highway. I counted around 8 or 9 sheep lying on the road. The news was there on the next day's papers. Totally 12 dead.

I wish somebody educates the people along highways that the best place to cross the highway is where you can see no traffic for atleast 50m.

PS: I had been to Gopalaswamy Betta. Even I had go into the cow herd. But it was not so dense. BTW, put the AC in re-circulation mode when you are passing through the herd. Otherwise your car will be filled with cattle smell

Similar is the case when you travel towards Tarikere and it's worse when you go to Kemmanagundi, the entire village is populated by cowherds.

As far as we could see (next one kilometer perhaps), the whole road was blocked by cattles. Several hundreds of them. And boy, were they slow! I didn't want to honk and cause a flutter among them. So slowly made my way. And one shepherd wasn't enough to manage them, so he given up too.

Enroute Gopalaswamy Betta after taking the turn from Mysore-Ooty highway.

Kousik
It looks like a demo of the protest the leftists are planning at Vizag this weekend, against the joint naval exercise in the Bay of Bengal!
Comrades, no offence meant!
