Re: What is your daily office commute like?

13-14 km each side. I commute from the South Bengaluru side to the Yemalur area, so on a normal day, 45mins is what it takes for me to reach the office if I leave around by 8 in the morning. While heading back, I choose to leave office by around 3:30 - 3:45 PM so that I can skip the rush hour traffic. Even then, it would take me close to an hour or so to reach home. I avoid commuting by car, unless and until I'm really sick and not in a condition to commute on my motorcycle, primarily due to two reasons:

1. Absolute disregard for someone else's private property. Getting scratches in your car is considered a normal thing and people do so without any remorse.
2. The horrendous road quality. I'm one among the few who chose to go with a sedan than a sub CSUV / CSUV, so it's a nightmare to navigate your car through the lunar surface here, not to mention the elevated fuel bills too.

OT: Not sure if it has to do with the opening of the Silk Board double decker flyover, but I'm seeing more congestion on the ORR and the arterial roads these days.

Cheers,
NI

Re: What is your daily office commute like?

11 km one way. GCX to Golf Course road. Takes mere 20 minutes at 8:00 AM. But returning 6:00 PM, ~1H. Have stopped using Google Maps, just adds to more to the anxiety, since I will never deviate the route. Listen to 80-90's rock on youtube, enjoy the vehicle.

Re: What is your daily office commute like?

Currently my daily commute is 80-100kms (to & fro) depending on the evening plans, if I’m socialising or not. Journey time is 35 mins in the morning and 1 hour in the evening. Honestly, I don’t mind doing the long commute because I love driving and the traffic in Raipur is not as bad as other big metro cities. I do get a patch to push my car everyday and I just love that. My commute is 70% highway and the rest city. This is one of the reasons why I have done 55,000kms in just last 2 years in my lovely Rapid DSG TDI, I’m not complaining though

Re: What is your daily office commute like?

Daily commute is 18Kms one way

To: Usually leave at 9.45 AM

Bike: On an average 35 min , Worst case 45 min.

Car: On an Average: 45 min, Worst case 1 hour.

Return: Usually 8.30 - 9.00 PM

Bike: On an average 30 min, Worst case 45 min.

Car: On an average 35 min , Worst case 1 hour.

1 km stretch near KBR park decides the average and worst for me.

Re: What is your daily office commute like?

(Bangalore) From Whitefield to Koramangala, about 20km, twice a week. I never manage to leave as early as I ought to, and am on the road only by 8:30, which means peak traffic. In the evenings, I leave by about 7pm, which is post peak but still pretty chaotic.

On a bike (always preferred if I'm traveling alone, rain or sun)
Mornings : 1 hour 30 minutes - 1 hour 45 minutes
Evenings : 1 hour 15 minutes - 1 hour 30 minutes

In a car (Did it only once, you'll understand why)
Morning : 2 hours 15 minutes
Evening : 3 hours 45 minutes

The car episode was such that my bike had a flat, and it was drizzling the entire day, thus I thought, sure let me enjoy the 'comfort' of a car today. I did leave home by 8am in the morning. It started raining in the evening I wanted to beat the traffic, moved all my engagements to online and left for home by 3:45pm, wasn't home until about 8. This was the infamous day in 2023 when everything was chockablock in Bangalore. And that was the day when I promised myself never to take the car to office, no matter what.

To everyone who's curious on why my commute takes so long
1. Old airport road - Varthur Kodi to Marathalli
2. Marathalli (enough said)
3. ORR until Bellandur it's a (relative) breeze until Koramangala post that

On an average it takes me about the same amount of time from my home to the end of Marathalli-ORR junction as it takes me from Marathalli to Koramangala.

EDIT : I was quick on the trigger, and after polling did I realize I had to give a total for the round trip. I'd change it to 3-4 hours if I could, but would ideally have it in 2-3 since my inability to leave early, is the major contributor to my delay

Re: What is your daily office commute like?

Mumbai... Seawoods to Nariman Point

Morning: leave home at 7.00 am and take a relaxed drive on Atal Sethu and reach office comfortably by 8.00 am. Enjoy every moment of it thanks to the great song collection I have. I use eco drive mode and cruise control on Atal Sethu at a set speed of 90 km/hr.

Evening: will leave office by 6.15 pm and take the same route. On an average, it takes 1 hr to 1.15 hours to reach home even in traffic, thanks to the Freeway and Atal Sethu.

My daily commute is of 90 kms altogether and the vehicle is a 2023 Creta Petrol AT IVT(Adventure Edition). It ensures a smooth and comfortable ride and gives a mileage of 13 km/ltr on an average. I also have a 2022 Thar Petrol MT which is used for weekend trips.

Re: What is your daily office commute like?

I’m an IT Professional in Pune & work in Hybrid Model (3 days ofc, 2 days home). Travel by my own car to Magarpatta.

To & fro distance is about 22 Kms & I spend around 90-120 mins a day in office commute [ 9 AM - 6 PM timing]

Days when I travel to work, I lose out on my productivity due to travel time but certain tasks improve by being in ofc.

Re: What is your daily office commute like?

I am a mechanical engineer. Office is in PCMC, and my commute by train takes about 1 hr 30 minutes each way. Somewhat tiring, but manageable as I am at the start of my career.

Re: What is your daily office commute like?

My office commute is 36km each way(Malad-Vasai).
Out of which 20km is on the dreaded NH-8. Where construction work is perpetual.

Currently the travel time on good days is 4 hours. On bad days we go by train which also takes 1.5 hours one way. There is no avoiding traffic for us who travel to Vasai.

The less said about the road conditions the better.
My Fortuner’s Old Man Emu suspension gave way in 75,000km.
All we can do is rant!

Re: What is your daily office commute like?

Since 2020, it's been only 30 seconds as I have setup my office at home and it's been working out wonderfully since. Otherwise I go to the office 2-3 times a year and that's 20 mins by public transport which includes a 10 min walk. Can't take the car there as the office is in heart of Berlin Center and parking cost is simply not worth it for 6-8 hours. I have gotten so used to working from home that I don't think I will ever go back to Hybrid/WFO models.

I do have a daily commute to my daughter's kindergarten and the gym and that's around 3 km one side which takes anywhere between 5-20 mins depending on the traffic and if any road-repairs/constructions happening.

Re: What is your daily office commute like?

So after over 4 years of WFH (mumbai) now i am required to attend office 2-3 days a week for which i had to shift to Pune. Having stayed in pune earlier i was well aware of the city and its traffic pain points.

So now i am staying just 1.5kms from office which is a 20mins walk or a 5minutes drive/ride, i hardly get a chance to get into the 4th gear of my vehicle.

I was pretty clear that i don't mind paying 5k per month extra rent to stay close to office, with such a short commute the time and fuel saved along with mental peace is worth much more than Rs 5k.

Re: What is your daily office commute like?

Till eight months ago, my home parking to office parking one way was 11km. In the mornings, it took me 8-9 minutes owing to fantastic roads and little traffic. While returning it'd 15-20 minutes depending on traffic condition. My overall drive including outstation trips would be an average of 2000km per month then.
In my current workplace in Kathmandu now, I live just 1.5km away. There are multiple signals and it takes an equal amount of time. But then, the driving is more relaxed. I drive only 500-600km a month these days.
