To add to your point - I would name this category the "LED/Xenon Headlight Flashers" - These are the clowns who continue flashing their headlights at a frequency of 30 bursts per minute right from the time that their vehicles are 1 km behind your vehicle till the time they overtake you. This category of drivers is normally super active between 5pm and 7pm.

There was this bunch of idiots flinging empty beer bottles out of a car, when we were behind them on the highway entering Goa. Don't usually get into these things on the road, but this was too much, one of the bottles landed just in front of our car! (Plus I had two other male friends in the car with me.) Overtook them and gave them a yelling. Idiots! Also alerted the cops at the border checkpoint ahead to welcome them. Hope they got busted.

I've seen that education doesn't matter, litter will be flung out of the fanciest of cars. People can't be bothered to hang on to it till they can find a dustbin. Money doesn't buy class for sure.

3 points that annoy me the most:

1. Heavy vehicles blocking all lanes with impunity!

2. Lack of clean and hygienic washrooms.

3. Toll operators still routinely accept cash from offenders who get into Fastag lanes, while the rest of us in the queue behind feel like idiots.

Most things that annoy me have been covered by fellow members.

Another thing to add to the list is the slow response time for the toll gate boom barrier to open after the Fastag gets scanned. The fastest ones I have seen are in AP. For some reason the ones in TS, KA and MH are comparatively slower.

Few things that annoy during my long highway drives:

1) High-Beamers and the frequent flashers; blinds oncoming traffic and vehicles in front.
2) Getting Out and Returning back to Bangalore City
3) Lack of Lane Discipline on our Highways, and the ones who cut across even in toll booths
4) Those slow-moving trucks, which always takes up the fast lanes and sometime all lanes on the highways
5) Unscientific speed brakers, rumble strips, zig-zag barricades
6) Ones those create unnecessary traffic pileups due to stopping, parking, accidents or breakdowns
7) Littering, plastic bottles, food packaging, and everything

The obvious peeves are already aptly pointed out by other forum members.

Some more:

1) Lane diversion/restriction cones + tapes "strategically" placed on highways by staff cleaning the central median strip - often placed just after a BLIND CURVE, without ANY WARNING, taking vehicle users by surprise

2) Egotistic car drivers with an "aah, I drive a much costlier car; how dare he overtake me" attitude

3) Two-wheeler riders riding helter-skelter ALL OVER the roads - for instance, seen in & around Salem town, with scant regard to cars/other faster moving vehicles

4) Poor sub-standard condition of some tolled roads, why the heck are tolls collected then?

My list is as follows :

1. No lane discipline
2. Excessively slow moving traffic. A truck or overloaded Ace doing 40 kmph in right most lane.
3. Too many road dividers on highways.
4. Toll plaza are always a headache, long queues.
5. Poor road quality
6. Farms, homes built next to highways, etc. have a direct access to highways. Basically they can literally join highway out of nowhere. Dangerous. To resolve this, the solution is speed breakers. On such stretches, one is always in stress as anything can appear out of anywhere at any time.

All these add upto the stress of driving while gulping up time and fuel.

The average speeds on non access restricted highways is usually 50 kmph, atleast where in the state I reside in.

Most of the annoying things have been covered. But the biggest thing for me would be clean washrooms. One hack I found to get rid of this is to try and stop at 4 star hotels with accomodation that have restaurants. This way the washrooms are cleaner. Sometimes the restaurant washrooms are not as clean as the ones in their rooms but is decent enough.

Everything is covered but most annoying part for me is traffic congestion when you are going or returning home.

This totally shadows the overall trip adventure.
I hope in near future Govt will build Ring roads to avoid congestion.

People driving in opposite directions on highways drive me nuts! It is extremely dangerous and puts everyone in harm's way.

Crazy traffic while entering or leaving the city (I'm talking about you, Bengaluru!) Just makes the entire trip painfully arduous for no reason

Man, the list could be long..

1. The modified chinese projector lights which are improperly focussed and barely illuminate the road ahead but blind the oncoming traffic for sure.

2. Toll roads for 2 lane state highway road which is filled with bumpy repair patches and car cant br driven beyond 70kph on such roads

3. 4 lane national highways which are filled with potholes on the right lane where heavy trucks pass through. I encountered this 4lane national highway which goes from kashmir to Kanyakumari and it was PITA to drive on it in Madhya Pradesh section from Gwalior to Sagar. Im sure road must've been in similar condition in MP atleast

4. Jaywalkers and blind two wheeler riders you encounter through villages on a state highway road

5. Two wheelers and tractor trolleys without any reflector or tail light in night on 2 lane state highways

6. Bigger vehicles taking smaller vehicles for granted, specially the SUVs like fortuner and scorpio. And then there comes buses and trucks. Two wheelers are the worst hit by them.

7. Wrong lane passers, specially in hilly ghat regions. I feel driving in night is better when driving on ghat sections (2 lane) than day because ppl can see your vehicle's headlight and you can see theirs. God forbid someone overtakes a vehicle on blind turn and suddenly appears in front of you

8. People who don't know the concept of high and low beam at all

9. Lack of proper public services like food joints and public washrooms in long stretches

10. Unmarked speed breakers

11. People who drive too slow on highways for no reason.

12. Bikers in village who usually drive with 4-5 ppl on board

13. Lack of proper milestones, lane markings, road markings and warning sign on state highways. At one moment you're driving 80-90 and suddenly there's 90° curve ahead of you.

14. The 4 lane highways have plantation on the divider which does an excellent job to reduce headlight glare but also welcomes cattle running on road to reach the divider

15. Did i say cattle on road? Sitting, standing, walking or in herd..

16. Bad patchy road and traffic tires you 2-3 times, no matter the distance.

Apart from the ones already mentioned, there is one more thing that annoys me - frequent loo requests from co-passengers. All those trucks and other heavy vehicles that I already overtook will be again ahead of me and now I have to overtake them again. This is a very big issue while driving in Kerala where you have singe lane highways and heavy traffic on both directions.

The thing which bothers me most is people not following the traffic speed of that particular road. This becomes further irritating on dual carriageways since such drivers are generally closer to median. On overtaking, you find them talking on phone. Why can't people stick to left side(left most lane) if they aren't sure of road or looking for something.

Many driver assume that driving slow = safe driving. Obstructing traffic behind is not at all considered.

I face this daily twice during my office commute to Hinjawadi. The entire Maan road stretch from Ph-1, Tata Technologies sq to the right turn towards Ph-3/Megapolis is full of such drivers.

Don't know if anybody has faced this peculiar one, but I have - several times while driving in two-laned state highways.

A car is going in front of you. It is slower than yours. You try to overtake and move ahead of the car but the car speeds up as you attempt to overtake. You let them go, comeback to your normal speed and maintain a safe distance; only to catch up the same car in a few mins - driving again slower in their original speed. Now, the car is going in front of you and it is slower than yours........ and the entire thing repeats.

Now next is one level up! As I approach a toll booth, I evaluate which lane is moving smoothly and I set course to enter the lane. Now a suddenly a guy comes from behind and enters the same lane I was preparing to enter. So we both enter one by one only for the guy in front to get stuck with low balance in his tag or blacklisted tag or with no tag at all. I end up irritated to the core, wasting several minutes or having to reverse out and go to adjacent lane resulting in breaking my entire momentum and mood.

If you travel especially in state highways of rural Bengal, you will find hooligans in groups stopping you with authority and demanding money almost endlessly. It is not unusual to find such groups every 100 mtrs. Though the demand is not much- 10-20 rupees at each spot but still gives a lot of insecurity due their behavior. Did I mention that they are all armed with sticks?
