Earlier, I have heard few people here in Pune refer to construction as contraction. Found written proof now. :-D

That's funny!! After all they deliver flats and buildings after "Contraction", right?

The way Construction is pronounced here in Pune is more like "Cun - Truck - shun"

Might be from "contract?" How people here love to add "ion" to words. The infamous and horrible updation now being standard and formal use

Probably a new word derived from contract > contractor > contraction. So the work done by a contractor is contraction .
