| ![]() Foolscap and quarto were our standard sizes. Quarto was the one that got replaced by A4. There were many quaintly-named paper sizes, none of which I can remember now. Oh wait, I think that folio might have been a paper size. |

| ![]() A lot of people think the correct spelling is "fullscape", hence the confusion I guess. |

![]() 'Legal' and 'Executive' sized paper are still in vogue - the former is used when printing documents for filing of plaints filed in courts and the latter when a (high level) functionary (of a company / organisation) writes a personal letter using his designation. Guess the A-B-J etc. sizes got standardised with the advent of inkjet / laserjet printers (for dot matrix printers we used 84 - 132 - 156 column paper sizes, if I remember correctly). | |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() Yes - I guess 'Legal' size must be unique to India, and are almost always green coloured paper. Not just legal plaints - even property registration documents are printed on this size of paper. Looks as though you have never been involved any (il)legal shenanigans or property transactions, Thad! ![]() Actually, I thought that 'Executive' sized paper must be fairly common, because it is generally known as 'Executive Bond' paper - it is thicker (120 or 150 gsm) with a subtle off-white colour, and there are varieties which have minute rippled surface, which gives them a nice heavy texture. Just remembered something more from dot matrix printer days - there used to be a 'fanfold' (i.e. continuous stationery) and a separate German standard 'fanfold' - these sizes had to be separately indented from paper suppliers, as they were not usually used. | ![]() I have been seeing this sign on the toll booth (?Sriperumbudur) for many years now. Looks like the sign is as damaged as the road now after getting thrashed by rains! Time to repair the sign? The road just doesn't show any improvement. |
