this is the worst that can happen. a moron does his s*** in front of you, endangers himself and also you and finally you end up paying for it!

dam man, when will these people learn.

and add to this the local *wise guys* - their motto is : Big vehicle at fault small vehicle always right (Big vehicle does not include Bus / Trucks / Vans)!!![/quote]

That seems to be the way of the road, you have a smaller vehicle, you figure you are "The Flash", faster than a speeding bullet, with as much dexterity as one!!!!, its the guy with the bigger vehicle that is supposed to save you, no matter what you pull. they figure that the bigger the vehicle, the faster it stops and leave no stone unturned to prove it.
That's completely true too, they figure that since you have a car you are rolling in money, few of them realize that except if your last name is tata or brila, you probably have paid through the nose for the car and suffer anxiety attacks every time anyone is within spitting distance of it.

Can't help it. Hyderabadis will never learn road etiquettes.

Lol... hyderabad has not changed a bit since the last 4 years that i have been away from it... rather hyderabad has changed, but the hyderabadis havent.

Okay i might sound like someone who does not care for human life here but anyway here it goes
Last year my dad got a heart attack. He was in the hospital here in ghatkopar.I had gone to mulund alone in my car to show his reports to one more doctor who was going to carry out his angiography.
Dalits had some of their problems that time and they had taken out a morcha.Since to come to ghatkopar u need to cross ramabhai colony on the left hand side of the highway.
I was alone on the road and these people were crossing the road in large large numbers.
I stopped the car a little away from them so that they could cross leaving some gap from me.
And then there comes the surprise. They start coming in the direction of my car.I had no idea what one guy would end up doing. He picked up a huge stone, came right near to my bonnet and tried to fling it on the windscreen.I was alone and would no way let that happen and with the car already in first gear I udavofied him.YES I banged him.He was on the bonnet and the stone created a big scratch on my bonnet. He was holdin for his dear life.I braked hard.He fell on the ground.
Everyone started running towards my car.I was soo scared.I slotted her into reverse and decided that i m not stopping the car whoever comes in the way.Moved behind with the crowd running towards my car.Took a U turn after reversing and went in the wrong direction at almost 100+ kays.Went into the next possible left and went home.
I was scared that they would have noted my car number bla bla and parked the car in my building in such a way that no one could see it.But luckily nothing happened.
The stone mark is still there on the bonnet and the look in that guys eyes when he hanging on the bonnet still scares me sometimes when i think about it but i had to do it to save my life.

Scary situation you were in,humyum!
I guess what you did was purely out of instinct.I wouldn't blame you for using your car as a battering ram. If your life is in danger, only you'd be able to pull out of the sitation.

humyum, that was a close call. it was a good call. and a brave one at that!

Ihad not one but 2 crashes on the same day and both of them in a span of HALF AN HOUR. About 3 years ago before i bought my pulsar i used to ride my dad's HH Passion. One sunday coming back from NIIT classes I overtook a couple on a TVS sport to take a left and the obvious happened. We both fell down but worst horror was when I saw that the lady was a police constable riding pillon with her husband. They wouldnt let me go and was demanding I come to the nearest police station with them. I begged and pleaded and finally was let off when I showed her my college ID and left me coz i was a student( works every time) . I continued the back home just shaken and when the other one happened. I was crossing a quite busy road (no cops no signals this place was near sayani ., ayanavaram, chennai guys must know) when this FAMILY OF 4 again on one of those dammed TVS's hit me. I was already halfway crossing the road and that guy had come racing across. This little kid of his fell down and started screaming her head off. The worst part was the drunk local MLA who started demanding money from me on behalf of the others( even though they agreed it was their fault) and finally had to be persuaded by the locals and I got the hell out of there.. Talk about bad days but no bruises to me( Bike wasn't so much bruised either) Could have been worse..

Guys really frightening experiences. Crashes can happen at any time. even if we are not making any mistakes. Let everybody have a safe drive.

This is an account of crash, of which i happened to be an on looker of the episode:

It was 11th Jan08 night, at about 8:30pm, on the road from gachibowli to rayadurgam(tolichowki) - 3 +3 lane highway. I was speeding at about 60kmph on my bike when i found bikes and cars ahead coming to halt. I braked ,shifted down and seeing a biker ahead pulling left i too pulled my bike off the road and stopped to see what was the commotion about.
A small group of people were carrying a fainted(that's what i thought) man straight towards me(i happened to park bike right opposite to the scene) and i pushed my bike a little ahead to give way for them to lay the man on ground. He looked like a building worker(as the place is flooded with new constructions) age about 35 and people crowded all around him , someone is working on his chest and hands- reminded me of first aid in case of heart attack- mean while i heard words like shock, water etc.,.

Confused , i looked around to understand what has happened, saw a white indicab slowly pulled off the road to left and a bicycle dangling on to its hood. Immediate thought was to call 108 emergency services and found someone beside me already on the same job. So, next thing i did is to note down the cab number and when i got back to the victim i found that this guy is now sitting upright ,bewildered with some blood drenching from his left chin and left shoulder(probably a skull injury??) and some bruises all over left side of torso. Some one is commenting that the guy is drunk. I personally did not inspect him as he was already crowded upon by people.

I left the crowd and went to see the status of indicab. Meanwhile some fat ,short , bushy mustached elderly man is removing the bicycle off the car and placed it on the ground beside it. The cars front left fender is badly damaged, some dents on bonnet too, did not notice head lamp though. The bicycle on the other hand seems to have only handle bent(its a ranger MTB)-didnot notice any frame damage. Mean while some 2-3 people came rushing to indica shouting at the earlier fat man. The old man replied that he is going nowhere and is just taking the bicycle off his car.

Ok, so he is the one who drove the car. Suddenly i see some elderly lady emerging off the car and speaking to this old man. So, she might be his wife(actually she is ). I asked this cab person what happened and his account was :

The indicab was going on the middle lane while the bicycle wallah ,riding till then on left side lane , suddenly headed to a gap in median. This man in car, having very short notice to do any preventive action ,tried his best but ended up with his front left side hitting the bicycle and the worker fell flat on the ground. The narration was confirmed by some one around saying that actually it was the mistake of the bicycle guy.

By this time worker and residents of road side slums started crowding the scene. There were only a few educated people around and some of us were already starting their bikes to leave . I suggested to the cab-wallah that he should give a couple of hundreds to the drunkard for treatment and leave the place as it might get very nasty to deal with locals. One guy was asking him to drag the drunkard and whoever supports him to police station (which is actually only a km down the road).I cautioned both that in such a case police may scold the drunkard and leave him, but they will ask a huge bribe from the cab-wallah. Mean while some locals and a couple of bikers approached this cab-driver/owner and started to shout what ever they can- i couldnot make out a single voice of that chaos. All that while the cab-wallah remained cool and calm and finally after the crowd started to settle a little ,he said he will take the victim to hospital and give the best treatment possible. To this someone shouted they should go to police, some one pointed there is damage to car also(as if that will appease the locals), i again suggested going to police is a bad option and persuaded the cab-wallah to give a couple of hundreds for his treatment and leave the scene ASAP. Mean while , we heard the siren sounds near by and turned around to see the 108 ambulance right on the other side of the road.(Well, the vehicle will usually be parked at the rayadurgam Police station 1-2km down the road).
I said to myself that the situation is getting worse and worse. But,the cab-wallah was still cool, inspected the victim , assured him that he will be taken to hospital. The 108 came to this side of the road and the doctor came out , inspected the victim and asked him to get into the ambulance. Again for some time all voices filled the air and no one heard anything properly. The cab-wallah still lugging at the hand of the victim , the locals looking greedily at the cab-wallah(they looked to me like fox/vultures/hyena -what not) ,the ambulance doc watching amused, some of us bikers watching helpless-- suddenly i heard some one calling the wife of the victim. Where from the hell did she appear in this situation - i wondered. The cab-wallah reassured her that he will take her husband to a good doctor and she (already her eyes filled with tears) nodded in silence.
A deep sigh of relief from the cab-wallah and rest of the voices of locals subsided. Along with two others to help, the victim took rear seat of the cab , the cab-wallah and his wife at front the cab is all set to go when the cunning (my opinion) 108 doc intervened. He said that there will not be any police case and they will offer free medical aid.The cab-wallah said that he himself is an ex-service man and not worried of any police and assured the 108 doc that the victim will be taken care of. Well, i thought gods are on the side of the cab-wallah , now with all resistance put off , the cab eased onto the high way and rode towards the city.

Back home ,I thought if i were the one driving the cab, i might not have stopped to attend the idiot who is drunk and is a menace to others. But in retrospection i may regret given that the man was unconscious immediately after the collision and i cannot say whether he was alive.

However as long as i was there i only thought as a fellow driver what was the best that i could do to help the cab-wallah(he was not arrogant you see).
Guys ,whenever you drive at night , particularly in sub-urban limits , please give enough room for error(even with which, some times ,we run out of luck).

@humyum, that was a scary experience.. and you did the best thing that you could!
Good that you were driving a M800 and not a Sumo else the story would have been different??

Woww.. This is one thread where I don't have anything to contribute !! And I want to keep it that way (Touch wood).

Best to keep it that way, spadival.:thumbs up
deetee, that was one scary experience!! I'm surprised that the locals didn't do any damage to the car. I think the positive thing here is that an ex-service personnel was involved, and they surely know how to keep their cool in most situations. Seen that with my F-I-L,who retired from the Army last year. We were involved in a crash, but he took total control of the situation and we managed to walk away without any issues.

Well, he has held his nerve well all that while; first he parked the car away from the scene- so chances of locals spoiling the car is minimised. Next he kep t his cool ,listened to everyone and fantastically took control of the situation.
Untill he sat in the car to drive off, he did not mention of is prev.service.

70 something kmph,Kinetic honda,K&n roar,12th main coffee day,t-boned a guy on an rx135.Embarassment.Pain.Bed rest for a week.

Here goes mine...

I have had couple of minor accidents on my Splendour none major(touchwood), but this flashes in my memory whenver i look into the right mirror...

It was a Saturday morning and i had a project release at 8:30 AM. (i was the Project Leader, so i had to be on time), i was driving a Superbike faster than Rossi (or so i thought ) .... braking late ... using engine braking ... accelerating hard ... taking curves on the apex.

There was this curve just before my office (the left part of the curve was not visible). Being a saturday morning i thought none would be there and didn't bother to touch the brakes. As i turned into the curve...i saw these two road romeos on a TVS Victor crawling on my side of the road teasing a chic who was walking on the left side. These guys were right in front of me. I hit the rear brakes (i didn't want to hit the front brakes as it was a slope and had learnt the consequences of using the front brakes on a slope in a bicycle :D) the bike skidded i managed to slightly tilt it towards the right to avoid a head on collision. WHOOSH... BANG i banged into the right front of the Victor. I was able jump off the bike and escaped with just a cut on my leg.

Now the fun started... :)
The chic walked off, not even bothering a glance...
I was pissed off at those two romeos. i went to their bike not bothering to ask if they were injured, i promptly took the keys of the Victor and pocketed it. Then i checked my bike for damages.... the right mirror was broken, right indicator snapped and wisor had cracked.
I knew i was at no fault, called up a few friends ... took hold of the DL of the rider and asked him pay me for the damages.... :D :D

The romeos, were college students, called up some of their friends and started to argue. I did not budge, they could not do anything as i had the keys and their DL. So they went to get a mirror and a indicator. After some time they came back with a mirror (i guess they plucked it out from a bike in their college, because it was not a new one). They fixed the mirror and 'fevi sticked' the indicator. I did not bother to pursue this anymore and gave their belongings back.

Now the right mirror reads "Objects in the mirror are closer...."
Since then, whenever i see the mirror, i grin to myself :)
