How deep are those marks. Some look like clear coat damage and some look like they are deep scratches. If you run your finger nail on the scratches you will know the stent of damage. From what I see it's looking like a paint job.

Thanks everyone for your inputs. The cause is not yet clear and the marks are not deep. I took the car to my detailer and he was confident that they could be removed.

Will get it done during my next detailing cycle and keep you guys posted on the results.

Most probably, yes. Will need some compounding and polishing though.

You can do it yourself, or take it to a detailing centre.

The scratches look too deep be removed completely. you can apply a coat of cutter polish or the 3M scratch remover on the entire boot lid surface, this will help the marks fade a bit.

Also, be careful, given Bombay rains, the bare metal will start corroding soon. So might need a coat of paint before rains. I had to do similar for my Honda City, the exposed metal turned brown within 10 days of rainy season kicking in.

So sorry to see this. These appear like deep paint scratches. Might be lightened by detailing but not completely eliminated. Please show it to a detalier. My blood boils when I see our rides being vandalised this way by some have-nots.

Sorry to see this Sumeet. I think this can be removed by rubbing compound or scratch out. You can use 3m rubbing compound and this should take care of it.

Sorry for your beloved ride, we all know how it feels.

Can you feel the scratches with your finger tip? If not, then they can be removable. Try with toothpaste on a small area and check for result. If you mark any improvement you can go for rubbing and polishing.

They look pretty deep to me since the damage is done with a sharp object. Before using any rubbing compound wipe the scratch with a wet cloth and check if they disappear. Only if it disappears you can consider using rubbing compound.

Run your finger perpendicular to the scratches.

• If your nails do not get caught, then only rubbing compound would do the trick.
• If your nails catch these scratches then they are deep and will require some rubbing using different sandpaper of various grits and rubbing compound. If you are not sure of doing the second one, I suggest that you take it to a professional as you might end up removing the paint.

After using the rubbing compound wipe the area with a clean cloth and then polish/wax the car.

P.S. Rubbing/sanding will remove the clear coat and further rubbing will remove the base coat thereby damaging the paint. If this happen you have no option but to repaint.

@audioholic: You would need to use rubbing compound anyway. for minor scratches, only rubbing compoung would do. For the deeper scratches, you would need to sand the area and then again use a rubbing compound.

Thank you guys. I can feel the scratches. There is 3M shop in my area will ask for advice if they can remove. Will try and see another known shop and see what they say. Worse case will be repainting. Will check my sources.

From what is visible, I am 100% sure it'll go away after some compounding and polishing. May require wet sanding too.

Thanks man appreciate your help :-) I showed the car to a 3M shop close by and they said scratches are deep and will need a re-paint. They quoted 6.5k for painting the entire rear boot section and 2 days time for the job. I will show it to a garage I had got some work done earlier and might be able to get the work done cheaper. I can feel the broken surface when I run my finger over the marks so I guess painting might be the way to go. Not sure if detailing will help. I even pinged Kamyo detailers and sent them the pic on Wats App. They said the scratches are thin but deep and that they will lighten but may not go away. However they can only confirm if they were to see the car in person.
