Freak mishap - windshield crack

I was driving in my Civic along NH4 from Kolhapur to Dharwad, cruising at about 100kmph. Its an arrow straight road with sparse traffic.
There is this truck cruising in the left lane (following lane discipline for a change). I am about to overtake the truck, and suddenly a stone comes flying from rear wheel of the truck..hits front windscreen...and leaves a decent crack...on passenger side.
Although the windscreen is not completely cracked, and the crack is not obstructing driver's view...still its painful.

I really cant blame the truck driver...or anyone else...its just sheer bad luck :(
Any idea about the cost of Civic front windscreen ?

Get it repaired with your Insurance. Windshield is 100% covered.

The only Item you have to pay is the seal.

Once a medium sized stone came flying from under the Truck's tyre near Chitradurga and hit my left ankle left a decent swelling. Flying stones coming from under those big vehicles are very dangerous.

Happened to our old man's Optra. My Vtec has a stone hit on the windshield.

Check out Windshield Experts also as they are competitive and give good service - also owned by Asahi who make the glass in the first place

These are all part and partial of the highway drive or any drive, no one can be blamed.

The windshield is covered under Insurance and you can claim the full amount, if it is just a small crack and is not major then do not claim the insurance and do not change it. Because every claim of insurance done deteriorates the value of car.

These kind of thing happens out of the blue sky without even expecting something like that to happen

Can you please clarify? How do insurance claims deteriorate the value of a car?

no!! when you make a claim it will show up in your document for the next year.
in this case those buying the car as second hand will think that the car has been involved in a major accident[ thats the usual case when you go and change the wind shield hihi] so that will decrease minimum 20-30k off the resale value just like that..haha.

But as responsible sellers, would you not disclose the fact that the car had an accident (major / minor) and share the service records with the buyer?

yeah thats true i will do that
but i wont be selling any of my two cars will modd them on and on . its a waste to sell them after maintaining them so good for a long time
even yesterday i felt real good when i did a 130kmph in my 7yr old DLS[ accent] the satisfaction that you get cannot be expressed in words!!!

but yes i heard that the car value quoted in the insurance paper might also get depreciated if you claim ..not sure of this.
the insurance gurus please comment.

its best to claim insurance.
but see to it that the prenium for next year doesnt get loaded due to this .
the wind shield is costly..10k rs minimum i guess!!

this sort of thing happens more often when we're following rear wheel drive vehicles on broken roads in the wet season.

The same happened to my car's windshield as well. Not sure if it was from a truck or some prankster by the roadside. Yet to change the windshield, as of now.
