A Drive to office in Morning Rain

This is not a regular travelogue, Chennaites would know that office goers today morning were faced with some really heavy rains in some parts of the city. Thought of taking some snaps while driving through the rain to office today, the route taken was from Padi to Royapettah via Anna Nagar, Kilpauk, Egmore & Mount Road. Am also putting up a short video just about when the rain started to reduce in intensity, the video was taken in near Anna Nagar West Depot. I am not sure if people want to see stuff like this, hence am restricting to a few pics. Do let me know your feedback.

Cheers.

Between two wipes - On New Avadi Road

I thought Bangalore was bad, 2 days driving in chennai has made me think otherwise. Drivers are becoming very aggressive these days in chennai :(

Thanks, Srikanth. This was certainly a different travelogue.

Bangalore had a soggy morning too, and on my way to office I kept hoping the rain wouldn't worsen because I had to reach in time for an important meeting. I saw your pics just after leaving the meeting and they brought a smile to my face as they resembled the scenario I kept dreading earlier.

Nice pics pypkmsrikanth. Today it was raining in Bangalore too and to my surprise our office bus' wipers were not working at all. Although rains stopped after sometime and I have taken deep breath.

This is the condition of most of the cabs, buses in Bangalore.

In your pic# 3: Two autos heading each other. Did you notice ?

Which is why I had commented about patience among road users. The auto on the opposite direction had gone kaput so the driver was pushing it along. The auto from this side did not have basic courtesy to respect the other driver's plight nor give him way by waiting.

This is the common scene in all our metros. Govt will not wake up and we will "enjoy" these kind of scenes through out our life...

The problem seems to be the increasingly appalling traffic conditions across the country, frustrating drivers to alarming extents. Its high time the Central Govt recognizes this issue and turns around this country to the mindset of a motorized country - like China has done.

The Day After

As the rain takes a breather from the city of Chennai, decided to capture the battering the roads have taken after two days of rains, will try to upload new pictures as and when I capture them.

Is this Kerala or West Bengal? This is not a hartal, but a ingenious method of warning motorists to watch out for the pothole. Taken near SBOA school Anna Nagar
A Drive to office in Morning Rain-23102008_003-large.jpg

This cut seems to be getting deeper by the day, I dread the day when any motorist decides to speed up in an effort to beat the red light in the signal. Taken at the Jn. SBOA School road and IRR.
A Drive to office in Morning Rain-23102008-large.jpg

All that is left now in the road is gravels, soon they would also be missing.
A Drive to office in Morning Rain-23102008_002-large.jpg

Almost all the roads of Anna Nagar surrounding the IRR had been dug up for some cable laying work a month back. The contractor must have decided to short cut the relaying part, hence roads have started having lunar craters - Or is it a way of announcing the launch of India's Chandrayan.
A Drive to office in Morning Rain-23102008_001-large.jpg

There are some bigger ones near Lucas Jn. which I will try to shoot tomorrow.

Very nice pics pypkmsrikanth & Rahulkool - guess you've decided to continue Nickatnite's excellent thread

I read somewhere that the reason that dug up roads aren't relaid at once is that the department doing the misdeed does not have the authority to re-lay the asphalt ! They have to pay the cost of covering up the dug up bits to the Corporation, which in turn appoints a contractor to do the work... Bureaucracy at it's best
