Hi Bubby, sorry to say but this was due to slight negligence on your end.

Even I never look at the parking rates but when I'm parking in VIP parking, I make sure I check and double-check.

p.s.
My parents have gone to Chandigarh today and will be returning tomorrow, I better call them and check where they've parked the Getz !!

Last time when I went out of station, I parked my car in BIAL at 4.30 am and took out the vehicle by 9.30 pm the same day. I was charged per day basis of Rs.250. But Rs.620 is way too high.

You must have parked at the Ajmeri Gate side and not Pahargunj side. VIP parking is on that side only and is next to the last platform. The normal parking is Rs. 50 or 100 per day and I remember using it once. One always has to calculate the cost vs the cab.

There is also a prime place for parking in the station area which is free. One of my friend's Dad was a very senior officer with Railways and I always use to park there then.

I think it's the way to go. Keep parking fee's high. This will help reduce congestion both on the roads as well as in the parking areas. We can always take the cab/auto route to the station/airport.

Well there are 2 types of parking, the difference between the two is, in one of them you end up paying some 200rs for some 16hours and in the other one you end up paying some 600rs.

The big picture is :

In the general parking ( 200rs ) you may get some scratches on the car during the cars tenure at the parking, however in the VIP parking ( 600rs ) you get a scratch free environment

Re: VIP Car Parking at New Delhi railway station - Rs40 per hour

I have parked my car at the Multi Level Car Park next to the Metro station, about 5 min walk away. It costs 150 Rs/day. Its a fairly modern (though badly maintained) building that has the new parking slot display system which tells you the exact number of available slots in each zone.

Will update on the safety of the car in ~36 hours on my return!
