Why was I not allowed into the police car with my father?

Gentle explained that the policeman told her that the police car is insured and so are the occupants inside, if they have reason to be inside. This means that the 2 policemen and my criminal (my Dad) were covered by the insurance. However I had no legal reason to be in that car - so they simply could not take me.

And my father?

Here is a quick recount of my father's misadventure.

He was bundled into the car and the policemen asked him which hotel he was staying in. He didn't remember the name. Of course not, it was a German name. And the address?
His answer was simple.

I told you to take my son with us. He is the one who does the booking, he is the one who remembers the hotel. I'm just here on holiday.

The policemen were both angry and frustrated. They were being rude to him (but this is understandable, as my Dad was clearly wrong. He should have had his passport on him and he was no help)

They found the hotel with great difficulty. Apparently they went into 3 or 4 hotels in the vicinity and looked for Kapasi in the register. Eventually they took a key from reception and went up to his room and waited while he found his passport.

Then they took him to the station and were questioning him when I entered.

The story continues.

I am escorted by the officer into the room. It is an office and the man sitting at the desk looks like a senior officer. The other 2 policemen who arrested my father are also present.
My Dad is sitting there trying to explain.

When I enter he looks relieved to see me.

And is this your son?
Yes. He was with me.
Can you tell me what happened?

I told him the truth. Every little detail. And I told him we made a mistake. He heard me out quietly.

Your insurance will not pay for the repair of this car he said, looking down at our insurance papers. I was a bit surprised, but then I realised that they had probably taken Dad to the hotel first.

How much money have you brought to Germany?

Mujhe theek nahi lag raha hai Sameer. (This does not sound right to me)
Par yeh log aise nahi hai (These people are not like that)
Kya karein?
Boldo kuch bhi.

We have one thousand US dollars.

He sits up. One thousand dollars? How long are you going to be in Germany for?
A week.
And then?
Maybe Holland or Belgium.
How long are you travelling for?
A few weeks.
One thousand dollars is not enough, he said angrily.
Everything is paid for in advance, my Dad lied.

The policemen are discussing the situation amongst themselves. Clearly this is an odd situation and one they're not enjoying themselves. I can see confusion.

Pata nahi.
Yaar, this is too much. Bina baat ke you brought us here to Munich.
What did I know?

The senior guy leaves the office with the 2 policemen and us in it.

Now what?

First i thought that rather than waiting for each installment i would wait for a day or two and read the whole story.

but couldn't help it and I'm here again.
