Hi,

I wish to transport a two wheeler from Bangalore to Kalyan. Can anyone tell me how much will it cost to send it as parcel through railway ( I am not travelling hence can't take as luggage ).

I checked on GATI website , and the price is coming out to be around Rs 1600 ( based on online calculator ). Anybody has an experience with GATI ?

Any other suggestions... ?

Thanks,
Ashish

Called up GATI.

They consider weight of Enticer to be 180 kgs based on volume, hence total price including insurance comes to around 3k.
They also pack at certain places and may charge 500-600 extra.

How much railway charges come upto ?

GATI is good, You could try other lesser known packers and movers. Their prices should be lower than GATI and they would even pack your bike according to your satisfaction. Please dont think of the railways if you love your bike even a wee bit. They can ruin your bike.

My brother in law transported his bike from Blr to Hyd with Agarwal packers. They did a good job. Why don't you check with them.

@Revention please search the forum before opening a thread as there is a thread maintained for the transportation of vehicles.

According to me transporting through RAIL is good

Mods please merge the thread

Last year it costed approx 800 to transfer an Activa from MP to Bombay (Malad).

Use services from smaller "Freight" companies instead of bigger Cargo / Courier companies. Since you are in Kalyan, Octroi would not be applicable. Otherwise it would be brought outside Municipal limits and you would need to pick up and drive it from there.

You can try Rail and or Bus (volvo). Yes, Volvo carriers doo take bikes as delivery but I think they will drop it somewhere on the highway, so you will have to drive down from there to Kalyan ( I guess via Dombivali). Rail is better, if not successful, book a ticket for yourself, it will cost 400 bucks for the ticket. (quick way)

Thanks all for your suggestions.

I am not planning to travel myself hence can't take it as luggage.
So option through Railways is to send as parcel. But I read in some blogs that it might take a long time if sent as parcel.
Does anybody know the parcel rates ?

I will try checking with other movers&packers like Agrawal too...

Thanks,
Ashish

PS : I couldn't find an existing thread hence started a new thread.
Kindly merge it to an exisiting thread if any.

Hey thats cheap. I was billed pretty high 2 years back when I transferred my Pulsar from Pune to Bangalore. So high that it would be embarrassing to quote the amount here. I got it reimbursed though after I submitted the original bills to my company! :D
The company was Agarwal Packers and Movers.

Get it properly packed up (Rs.600-800). Go to the Parcel section in Bangalore station. Just book it. Make sure there is no petrol inside & your RVMs are removed. The Railways will charge you less than Rs.1000.

packing is at max a 300-400 bucks job (was 250 two years back).

Paying 600-800 for it is high.

I called up Agrawal and they quoted 4000/- , more than GATI which was around 3000/- :)

:Shockked:
I did not know they were that expensive. Since his company paid for everything, my B in L did not really bother about this. Better stick with Gati. I once used Gati to transport a blueprinting machine from Blr to Patna and it was delivered without a scratch.
More than one person has told me that the railways have damaged their bike in transit.

Has anyone tried transporting as parcel through railways ? How much time it takes ?
I read on some blogs that it might take 2/3 weeks
