Hi,
I was in Muscat last week on official tour and had some not so good experience in driving on the RIGHT side of the road. (Wrong side for us and hence the topic's heading stupid:)
I have been driving in India for almost a decade now, but I still was concerned about the way I drove on the RIGHT side of the road.
I drove a Toyota Altis 1.8 auto for about 2 hrs and it felt awful. I was always conscious about what i was doing through out the entire drive since I was doing high speeds with city limits. Back home, driving is just as involuntary as breathing or blinking an eyelid.
The drive per se was OK, in the sense that I drove the car perfectly, but was intimidated by the oncoming traffic and the way those acute right and left turns were to be taken and enter into the correct lanes.
I am sure that most of you guys would never have felt anywhere close to how i felt and my friend (whose car i was driving) was making fun of me.
Thought of sharing my experience here and would invite other members advise on how to drive on the RIGHT-Wrong side of the road since I would be re-locating shortly. Any advise please:
Don't worry, after a couple of days driving on the "wrong side", it would become your natural "right side". You just have to remember that your side (driver side) faces the on coming traffic, and you have to drive through your "passenger side" lane.
You should hv semi-prepared mentally by sitting on passenger seat and driven for few days with your friends on Indian road.
I found it to be great preparation and didn't hv any problems what so ever while driving in US.
