To reinforce the point made here earlier by debugged that road widening in cities just allows quicker progress to the bottlenecks, there is a picture in today's local papers of just that, in a prominent place at one end of the large roundabout that has been created. So, maybe enough of such issues will surface so that this experiment can be abandoned. The good news about this is that it can be rolled back to the earlier state, since nothing permanent has been done like cutting down trees to accomodate more vehicles.
If that happens, it means that I will continue to avoid going there, which would be a good thing, because it will mean one less vehicle there.
