Just clicked today. These are not even a week old. Without the reflectors on it, it's just a matter of time they will be smashed in pitch dark. Ridiculous! Can't they even ensure some high quality and durable materials are being used.

Definitely a scam and eyewash and the contractor and the associated people are fooling the whole people.
What are these made off? Doesn't look like the usual plastic ones.

Absolutely. The reflecting material is off most of these, rendering them dangerous for night time driving. Further there seems to be no standards of laying this. I stay on ORR and on one side of the road, these are spaced at around 1.5m gap and on the other side these are spaced at a 0.75m gap. No uniformity at all. Looks like someone realized he could double his earnings.

What a sheer waste of public money.

Not able to identify where exactly this is but saw the same just post isro junction towards kr puram. The scary part is this is an area where the tree growth is quite dense and hence streetlighting is poor. Also since it is the first couple of bollards where the reflective stickers have peeled off and the rest still have them it is very easy to mistake where the bus lane starts from.

No idea. Must be plastic, what else? I don't care what it is made of, someone should be responsible for putting some good quality stuff out there.

Yes nearby that area, after taking that ISRO U-turn towards Kalamandir and exactly opposite of Reliance Fresh. It is just a matter time that those reflectors will come off from all of those and the posts getting bulldozed.

Seems like a vehicle has run over it. That is how bollards installed on high speed carriageways are supposed to work. They deform when hit, minimizing damage to strayed vehicle, and then stand back up, marking the lane once again. I don't think reflectors on any plastic bollard could stand the abuse of being run over by vehicles. They are designed to mark lanes while being cheap and easily replaceable. This one's color should still help it stand out in the dark, and the fact that there are many more like it in a row, should help the cause; till the time it is replaced.

Metal pillars, which were put up previously, are dangerous for high speed traffic. They'll cause serious damage to offending vehicle, and can fly off and hit other vehicles/people in the vicinity.

This could be true. I have indeed seen a broken-down truck move over from the central lane to the bus lane (using its momentum) to avoid blocking the ORR. The bollards just flexed under the truck and came back to their original position. That's the good part.

However, in a lot of places, the reflecting tape has just peeled off (or is in the process of peeling off). There are no scratches or damages, but the adhesive seems to be of poor quality. This is with low traffic conditions prevailing now-a-days and with a fairly new installation. Even without any impact the reflective tape will peel off the bollard over a few months at max, in my opinion. Hoping I am proved wrong.

Work in progress to make .75m gap. I am not sure what difference it makes. To prevent even the two wheeler's in getting in between.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

They should put those movable concrete blocks used as road dividers and safety barriers. Anything else is just waste of money.

Also, they are too close for the Buses. Some places where the trees are bent over and footpaths not clear, its too narrow for the Buses. Not to doubt the Bus driver's skills

Also the amount of fine for entering Bus lane, With one Camera monitor at-least every 500 meters. So if we assume Rs 1000 as fine for entering, if a person drives for 2 km with 4 camera the fine will be Rs 4000. This will deter most people to get into Bus lane. Its all about enforcement.

One of my friend who visited Italy was fined Euro 700 for driving couple of km in Bus lane which was marked in Yellow, while his total rental for a week for just Euro 200.

True that Surya has promised a lot and remains to be seen if he lives up to them. It will be interesting to see how he responds to your tweet.

Bannerghatta Road is definitely messed up but thats more due to BMRCL's apathy towards expediting metro works.
Roads near 7th phase are indeed better now as compared to what it was before the lock-down. I am pretty hopeful that this trend will continue under the present government.

Good job done by Bengaluru City Police

I am wondering about punishment, whether that will deter the rider from doing similar stunt again

Jail him! No matter how good a driver you are, some things are beyond your control like tyre bursts, someone coming in the way, etc. As part of civil society, it is our responsibility to follow speed limits. He *must* be jailed and driving license revoked. This is what happens in the developed world
