Some of the actions of BTP are inexplicable. Today I saw their interceptor blocking a lane between Hennur road and Nagawara Junctions while the traffic was going slow already due to Metro barricading in a few places in this stretch. This caused further congestion and they were just pulling the bikers to check the documents behind this vehicle.

Must be that time of the month, when they have to complete their quota of fines for the month

This is not a total joke, my friend of a friend, a trafic cop told me they really do have quotas to complete, plus unofficial diktats on what NOT to be checked and so on...

This has been a permanent installation for the past 1 1/2 yrs at least. Now that Metro work has started and the place is jammed, their collections will be low. The AI will take some time to realise that the interceptor is not earning it's keep. Once it notices the reduced cash flow, the bots will be moved to another location to block the road there.

Service roads to be built on KIAL expressway adjoining Yelahanka Air Force Base

https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities...66220.ece/amp/

Much needed although any land acquisition involving defense land is usually not straightforward.

A major accident spot will be removed especially outbound to KIAL as vehicles from the Yelahanka service road usually blindly try and merge into the main carriageway, without factoring in the significantly faster moving traffic.

I have myself seen multiple close misses on that portion.

Health check-up for flyovers (Bangalore Mirror report)

Quote:
Excerpt:

BBMP Special Commissioner (Project) said, “We have decided to audit the safety aspect of all the flyovers in the city. This audit will check parameters such as the safety, strength, structure quality and maintenance. We had outsourced a similar audit to a consultant in 2019-20 for which the report was submitted in September 2020. That report had mentioned that all the flyovers are safe.” However, with the recent rainfall, building collapse and Peenya flyover incident, BBMP is now going for the second audit.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Hosakerehalli junction on ORR, near the entry point to NICE road's Link road will be a mess for next few months, may be a year. Looks like a new flyover construction has started. The main up/down lanes are blocked. Frame of steel rods for one pillar has been put in. All traffic has been moved to the service road.

Well, it was needed. But till it's done - it's going to be a tough time during peak hours.

Crossed that part a couple times this week at rush hour, and it actually seems slightly better!

Reason: construction barriers have eliminated cross-traffic at Deve Gowda circle signal, and it's a signal-free corridor both ways along ORR. Causes traffic to bunch up at Janata Bazaar and Nayandahalli instead, but not much worse than it was already.

Monsoons are going to be tough though, as Nayandahalli junction is flooding-prone and now there's one less way out of that mess once someone commits to ORR beyond PESIT.

Signs! I'd be happy if most of us understood 'Red Light means stop', 'Footpath only for pedestrians', and the 'Right/Wrong side to drive/ride'. That would be more than enough! Compared to that, understanding signs is a long way away for most of us in Bangalore...

Heavy vehicles likely to be allowed on Goraguntepalya flyover
Source: The Hindu

Quote:
Excerpts:

After a gap of over five months, the authorities are likely to allow heavy vehicles, such as buses, trucks, and others, on the Goraguntepalya flyover (Peenya flyover). However, multi-axle trucks carrying heavy loads will not be allowed.

Ban on heavy vehicles on the flyover has resulted in traffic congestion under the flyover from Gorgutenaplaya till the Parle G toll gate.

This will only forward the traffic to Goraguntepalya [ORR] junction and not solve it. Real reason of this mess is not banning heavy vehicles during peak traffic hours

Which other metro city allows trucks in city limits in non-night hours? I remember 20 years back, our packers and movers truck was halted near Dankuni and only allowed to enter Kolkata after 9 PM. Bengaluru still cannot implement it.

Hope they also look into the bumpiness of the expansion joints and the surface in general. They are really bad. Not sure which contractors they are using, they dont seem to engineer good ones.

Blore ORR flyovers have huge potholes and every one has accepted it as business as usual. It's been this way for several years and the city fathers do nothing about it. One often finds mud/debris and plants also growing on the edges! Hopeless.

Eg. Intel flyover, Iblur flyover, Agara flyover, HSR BDA flyover, etc. These all have terrible surfaces.

Coming from Hyderabad, the lack of road sweepers in Bangalore has always amazed me. You could see the dust, or should I say sand, on the sides of every road in this city. It makes riding a bike very dangerous as you could easily lose grip.

True. Between Marathahalli and Silk Board, some joints on the flyovers act as virtual speed-breakers.
