Probably this change is made based on how some people travel when there is lot of traffic from all directions at the signal. I have taken this route, but I can say it is not convinient taking U-Turn at Tumkur road since there are heavy vehicles and other going straight, you have to join the flow from service road on the left and take U-turn. Probably it will cause more chaos at the U-Turn point as the number of vehicles is signifiantly higher.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

That proposed diversion before Gorugntepalya means that the proposed road will now be made a one-way though there is a divider there. That section in front of the Force motors service centre is usually busy in both directions during peak hours, but otherwise less used by traffic coming inwards from Tumkur road.

But basically another of those endless experiments BTP is doing across the city. Some have been cancelled after a couple of tries.

IMO, a new road may be better for traffic that goes from Sumanahalli towards Nelamangala, than such exciting ideas that some one is coming up with.

They have broken the divider below the elevated highway around 200 metres before the SRS junction for a 'U' Turn. So no need to go up to SRS. Again concern regarding heavy vehicles taking that 'U' turn still exists.

Nice satire!

Why traffic is no longer an issue in Bangalore

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I've used that road to avoid Gorguntepalya for ages, with & without the ROB. The only bottleneck used to be the junction of Pipeline Rd - HMT Main Rd during rush hours as that little section has narrow roads, but was otherwise peaceful in both directions. I've recommended that route to several people on this thread over the years.

The traffic got worse after the flyover being closed for heavy traffic a year or so ago, and this new edict will make the route practically unusable without minor cardiac events. I'll either switch to going via Yeshwantpur and joining CV Raman Rd, or just go the long way through town during non-rush hours.

All said, the ORR - Tumkur Rd junction at Gorguntepalya does need sorting out. Just a few weeks ago, I spent 45 minutes crossing it on my way to the airport for a morning flight. The sheer waste of time, fuel and productivity.

Possibly good for 2 wheelers, LMVs & LCVs. But I think taller laden HCVs will not be able to manage due to the height issue.

Unless the jugaad U-turn is manned round-the-clock (or a proper height barrier installed), it's a matter of when, not if, some container truck is going to ram the underside of the flyover and cause an almighty mess.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

When we take the left on Tumkur road from Industrial area, there will be heavy vehicles that you need cross that are going towards Tumkur using the road beneath the ROB.

This criss cross is what used to slow down vehicles taking right turn and then going towards Hebbal at the junction. Vehicles from left needing to keep right, vehicles from right needing to keep left

Proper rainy day for all looks like. Pouring in North BLR at least. Drive safe!

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I'm dreading the commute to work, especially with last week's Balagere to Kadubeesanahalli traffic jams. I spent 3 hours on 3 days getting to work and as usual 'educated fellows' forming 4-5 lanes of cars on a road that can accommodate one lane only one way. Caused massive blockade for vehicles coming towards Balagere from Kadubeesanahalli. After 2 hours the wardens/policemen cleared the folks on the incorrect lane and the traffic started moving and within 15 minutes our educated fellows had made 4-5 lanes again. I was seething with anger.

Missed an all important meeting that was at 11AM despite starting from home in Whitefield at 8AM. Google maps had suggested 36 mins to work and I had taken the bait!

Hello, last week even i had fallen for the Google map trickery of this road. I commute from varthur to mg road and i believe it is always better to go via Varthur road and old airport road. Or use Sarjapur Road and yes leave early around 7:15 .

The traffic woes are back, in fact had never been this worse after covid. I was doing a <1hr return journey home starting from Brookefield at 4-410PM and now that from the last two weeks has increased to 1:20hr and getting worse.

Right now the main pain points have become the stupid right turn on top of Marathahalli underpass which is now causing a huge backlog of traffic thats going towards the city from Kundanahalli gate.

The other major issue is traffic that goes towards Agara exit. I still cant figure out whats the big deal with people trying to merge or criss cross lanes in the most haphazard manner, which leads to traffic backing up all the way till Bellandur flyover. They have opened up multiple gaps in the divider, yet people just want to go all over the place. After this, traffic gets better. If someone can explain to the masses that a slow organised flow is much better better than cutting into everyone else, stop and go every second, they would be eligible for the greatest honours.

Very true, my commute time has almost doubled in the last two weeks and the two pain points are this new right turn on top of the marathalli bridge and then the U turn near the old brand factory. Both of these are aimed at easing the ring road traffic, rather than keep the ring road traffic, on ring road and have them take the U turn at the ISRO junction, which is wider and designed for the U turns. Now, the ring road is as usual blocked, our smart traffic cops have ensure the old airport road also is blocked
