Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Some hope for Bengalureans?? Traffic police drive against wrong side driving.

This culture of wrong side driving is spreading like a cancer. It is about time and I hope they do this more frequently.

There are 2 parts here - the 3 km flyover & the C ramp. The C ramp has a history. The silk board problem started 20 years back and ballooned up with memes, and daily news bites by E-city mega honchos. When the E-city flyover opened, E-city folks were happy. But silk-board was still the problem for ORR folks and they suffered in silence. First I saw the saw C-ramp design was in 2008 and it required demolishing many buildings to construct the ramp. Metro project was able to achieve the required demolitions. Hope the C-ramp is the solution to the silk-board signal problem.

BTMC buses going straight from BTM ORR are taking left & U-turn below the flyover, enter the silkboard bus station for past many months.

Though there is no green signal, people are making right turns, blocking the traffic from the opposite side.

Use that, go up, and cross the SB junction easily instead of being stuck in the junction.
There are a huge number of people trying to get to ORR from Bannerghatta roadside. They use the BTM 29th Main Road. The new double-decker flyover won't benefit them. Hope the C-ramp will help them.

Looong overdue! Hope they keep this up with sustained drives and awareness campaigns. There are way too many people (using all types of vehicles, from all levels of society, in every part of town) who think there is nothing wrong with driving/riding on the wrong side or on the footpath! And they get aggressive about it too. Crack down mercilessly on these colossal idiots.

Not a rant. I still remember the days when this entire mega-flyover region was just a four-road junction. Initially without signals, and then with signals. Buses coming from KL, TN side also used to stop before the left turn towards BTM. Diary Circle was another junction which actually had a round about.

The folks getting aggressive are more of the 'sons of the soil' types who often gets involved in road rage incidents also. Good that police now plans to use BNS (new avatar of IPC) provisions. Advantage is that court appearance may be mandatory for the accused. No on the spot compounding of fines. The only loop hole would be people who may not have permenant/correct address who can dodge the summons.

During peak hours, the start of the e-city flyover near Bommanhalli was already a bottleneck with a large number of vehicles going below the flyover blocking the lanes leading to the expressway.
Now with this new ramp, more vehicles would land at this bottleneck and exacerbate the situation.
Yesterday I saw the service lane on Hosur road (Silkboard->Bommanhalli) chockablock with traffic. So, for the folks travelling from BTM to ECity, the total time on the road probably will be the same??

As you mention, this will probably reduce wait times for those traveling from BTM->ORR.

Probably saved 15 mins over the bridge, added 20 mins after the bridge. Took me around half an hour to cross Bommanahalli signal from DD Hosur exit.

So can we safely conclude that the bulk of traffic at silk board was actually going towards E-City than towards HSR?
