Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

One good thing that BBMP has done over past few weeks is to mill the top layer off the overpasses around Kadubeesinahalli - Iblur section. Now there is only a small layer of tarmac is left, which has made driving very smooth.

The jolt at expansion joint is still there, but nowhere near as bad as what was there earlier. The service roads around there are a different story though.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Our office BCP team has recommended WFH today due to the weather, so has my children's school. In my 20+ years living in Bangalore, I have never seen anything like this (the only one I can remember was events surrounding the death of Dr Rajkumar) but that was not environmental. We are surely slowly killing our planet. Sad and its time to wake up.
Road maintenance and traffic control in Bangalore also needs a shot in the arm.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

There is a new road being constructed after Gali Anjaneya temple when going towards Nayandhalli. This road goes towards the left looks pretty broad. Any idea where this road leads to when the construction is complete?

NICE PES entry? Quick look at maps and that seems to be the obvious connection point but this is nammuru, so you never know.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Yes, it connects to the NICE road. There is already a over bridge on ORR for this road to join NICE. So the plan has been there since NICE road. This provides easy access to ORR from Chord road and Mysuru road from KR Market side. Only thing is for Chord road side traffic, will have to go round temple and exit on the left. Guess land acquisition was an issue for long time.

When they built the bridge over drain they could have continued it beyond satellite bus stand to solve issues on two intersections. But that needs our authorities to have normal IQ.

On the maps, the new road terminates after a km or so. I do not see it reaching the existing NICE road. Maybe the road construction is still on going or the maps are not updated.

It would be very helpful to join/enter NICE road for folks coming on chord road and mysore road. During peak hours, entering the NICE road from the ring road is a pain with jams extending back almost until Nayandhalli signal. I guess exiting NICE road from this point is useful only for those going towards mysore by taking the Nayandhalli flyover towards RR nagar.

I’m not sure if the entire stretch is connected from chord road junction to the NICE road near PES but as you said, a Kilometer or so of the road was completed ages ago and used by locals to play cricket etc. This part of the road is visible if you take the road next to Byatarayanapura police station that eventually leads to 50 feet road and then onwards towards Girinagara. As one drives on this narrow road, on the right side one can see the section of the NICE access road that I’m referring to.

Hopefully, they have completed the entire stretch till NICE road entrance before constructing the entry on the Mysore Road. Otherwise, this new entrance will be of no use!

Ok, there was some part in between that was not done according to google. The problem is for people coming on this road to join Chord road, they have to take a U turn at BHEL entrance along Mysuru road ?

Correct. That is the reason why I mentioned in my earlier post that, the exit from this new point is only useful for those who want to go towards RR Nagar/ Mysore who can take the Nayandahalli flyover. For those going towards chord road, taking a U turn after the Mysore Road metro station pedestrian over bridge is a better option since the road is wide over there. Taking a U turn in front of BHEL will cause a pile up behind due to continuous stream of vehicles.

Very true. Since there is a flyover for straight traffic at Metro, there is not much traffic below which can be used to take U turns. Hope they block 2 gaps in median currently present. But the one in front of Anant cars/BHEL is used a lot by lorries which take right turn from Mysuru side to the factories or something present there. They will have to go to Chord road junction and take U turn.

Good thing is in this part of the City, there are so many alternatives available compared to the dreaded Eastern part

The Chord road is signal free from Magadi road all the way up to Mahalakshmi layout. They could have planned underpass here since there are valleys next to it and water logging will not be problem. Now with Metro above its difficult.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I hope BTP/BBMP don't do their favorite thing and put a signal at that junction to allow for cross-traffic. It will amplify the chaos the Mysore Rd satellite bus stand stretch (Deepanjali Nagar post office signal to BHEL gate) already is.

This small act has made a significant difference to my return from work drive.
I generally stick to the right lane for a 10km stretch, except at this patch where I would move to the left most lane to protect my car from disintegrating.
A few more patches need similar treatment on some of the overpasses.

Yes. One can understand the regulars from the newbies by this act on this route. Those who were not aware of the condition of road used to dart on right lane on seeing it empty, only to be tossed around

Possible that they are going to re-surface these overpasses. Has happened on a few roads in South Bangalore. While the roads will become smooth for now, folks will be back to the jolts at expansion joints.
