Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

What’s with the new AI traffic lights installed at the Lalbagh gate junctions and inside the roundabout (beats me!) on Double Road/KH Road?

I had been there early morning couple days ago and I was surprised that traffic from Jayanagar and Hosur Road had stopped while I could enter Lalbagh by going straight. It’s usually a pain to cross into Lalbagh given that trucks and buses keep moving fast in the perpendicular direction.

Now, as far as I can remember I did not notice a signal for me when heading into Lalbagh (it may have been switched off and I could have missed it).

However, on my way out I saw a signal placed right inside the roundabout and causing a lot of confusion. After waiting for some time, I got honked at by autorickshaws and one of them told me the signal isn’t functional and I can proceed straight to get onto Double road. The problem here is that autorickshaws and Buses usually stop outside the Lalbagh gate and it makes it very difficult to get in or out of Lalbagh and now with this new signal setup it is causing more havoc. If this system has to work, BTP should ban autorickshaws and buses from stopping there.

While 90 or 100% accuracy in weather forecast is almost an impossibility, I have come to deduce that whenever Met Dept forecasts heavy rains in the next few days etc, it usually means rains will be reducing or stopping. Today, there was only a light shower around 6 pm in my area

Don't rejoice too quickly . There's actually serious cloud cover and accumulation of storm cells right above BLR. It's just not converted into a downpour yet.

I can only hope so - there are deeply ominous rumblings above the Yelahanka area!

It has been raining non stop since ~6pm today in North Bengaluru, From my experience I have found Bengaluru rains are not even across, it does vary significantly from area to area. Looks like my morning runs are going to be stopped for another week

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

This is Sarjapur Road for you at the moment, near Doddakannelli in towards Agara. 1 feet of water. Luckily I was on a bike and could wade though. Don’t dare to pass by Sarjapur Road at the moment.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

It rained cats and dogs yesterday night at Yelahanka/Kogilu/Kattigenahalli side so much that Kendriya Vihar is flooded again and the road in front of it(towards Philips) is also flooded. Traffic is now diverted towards the opposite lane. Kogilu Main road is flooded near Indian Oil Petrol bunk and hence road is closed. The backside road from Kogilu towards Hegde Nagar/Nagawara has waterlogging at some places.

To summarize, it chaos on the Yelahanka side.

Special round of applause to BBMP and Village Panchayat for killing the lakes and allow construction of Udupi Restaurant, Alakapuri Restaurant, Kendriya Vihar and so many other buildings

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

The issue with Kendriya Vihar is they have built on the encroachment on lake bed area, the flooding around Kogilu is mainly due to haphazard metro construction and the debris they have dumped all along the service roads which has blocked most of the drains and also resulted in flooding in Railway line underpass.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Kendriya vihar is getting evacuated with the help of NDRF today morning. The water level around the apartment was easily 5ft high as I was told by my colleague who is/was living there.

So true. Sharing image from google maps, encroachment is very clear.

Ironic since it is a govt construction project, done by CPWD, mostly for central govt employees.

Im sure that there would have been several downstream lakes and water catchment areas which would have gotten constructed upon, in the years and decades after Kendriya Vihar was built.

So if the Doddabommanahalli lake waters overflowed or were released or diverted it would definitely cause a cascading effect (quite literally!) into other areas and Im sure Kendriya Vihar is amongst those.

It is also a fact that the open spaces and plain land all around the city are reducing steadily and many larger house sites inside of the city are being made over into Apartments and getting covered in concrete, so the rain water can no longer seep in to the mud.

Consequently all of this runs off towards lower lying areas, simply following the laws of gravity.

Much of these rain related woes in our cities are caused by lack of planning, unbridled expansion and unscientific construction, all because of the Greed of Man. A series of disastrous Self Goals if one may.

See this 1942 photo of what was Bellandur Tank. I think now in 2024, 82 years later, it has become a sea of concrete.
