Honestly speaking, this is never bound to happen. Tolls are one of the prime forms of legal collection that does not discriminate between the rich and poor (of course unless you are so poor that you need to leverage your connections in the government or are a part of the system, to circumnavigate the tolls ).

I have never, in more than 3 decades of my existence, seen any toll being removed or shifted for the convenience of the public. Perhaps the only time I read about removal of tolls was the one entering into Mumbai from Navi Mumbai, which was purely for the electoral votes. Mumbaikars can confirm if the tolls have been restarted again or once they do.

Would like to however say that I ok to pay tolls given the time savings it provides. What I hate about them is the long line of queues at the toll gates because some moron sitting in a >INR 25lakhs car does not have a fastag and is fighting & flashing around some ID to save a few hundred bucks.

Secondly I am also particularly incensed at toll collection for roads under construction or with multiple diversions. How is a toll of INR 100 from Bangalore to Krishnagiri justified when there are 6 diversions within 60kms? But fairness and general logic are obviously at a loss when we have goons and law breakers with vested interests as our milords.

It is a stated policy of Kerala's currently ruling front that tolls will not be collected on any road that the state builds/maintains. So they closed out all, the biggest lot of which was this:

https://www.thenewsminute.com/kerala...-bridges-95027

As of today - I don't think there are any toll collections points anywhere in Kerala except the NHAI ones (of which, I believe are only 6 in the whole state).

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I feel the GNSS-based toll collection will radically change the entire tolling scenario. For example, it has already been announced that the first 20 km that a vehicle travels on the same highway in either direction will be exempt from toll.

If you measure the distance from the Baptist Hospital/Hebbal area to the KIAL exit, it is 19.6 km. I feel there is hope for us yet.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Just 2 days ago read that 26K crores is the amount of toll collected in the last 16 years in Karnataka. For the parts of NH passing through the state its good amount.

Just wish since maintenance is not same as building a new road, they would reduce the tolls instead of revising upwards

So at 2.30.pm, I thought I would dash to Decathlon Mahadevapura and pick up one and would take me about an hour at max for the 8 km roundtrip. Alas, I was horribly wrong, I was stuck at the road in front of Gopalan school for 45 minutes wrestling with school buses, wrong side riders, vehicles avoiding digging work etc. It took me a cool 3 - 3.5 hours to get back home (despite taking an auto both ways)..
Why don’t you guys use the metro? A quick check of the map reveals that it is a quick 15 minute ride from Whitefiled to the Decathlon. Even if the metro station is a little ways, use the auto to the nearest metro and avoid the traffic. I spent a couple of weeks in Bangalore last month and always used the metro as far as possible. Even though the metro network isn’t as big as NCR, it does help a lot.

There's no way the airport toll operator agrees to give up the free money from airport commuters.

Proposed one ways in Electronic City Phase 1

We received an email on our office email id, regarding the proposed one ways in Electronic City Phase 1. The trials will start from coming Friday, 20th Dec 2024.

They have appointed a consultant, who has proposed lots of one ways in Electronic City Phase 1, to reduce traffic congestion. Please refer to the attached image for the details of the one ways.

Looking at the proposed one ways, the biggest issue which I see is that the residents of the apartments of Neeladri Road, Neotown road etc will have to circle entire Electronic City to be able to reach the BETL toll booth.

I feel that a 10 year old could have done a better job than the consultant.

What do you feel ?

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I have to reach at a place between Sankey Lake and Bangalore Palace from Tirupati - more precisely the place is called Raman Research Institute, if exact location helps. I should be there by 9:10. Could anybody please advise on how long it will take if I decide to drive in the morning ? Will a 4 O'clock start suffice from Tirupati? If I need a much earlier start, I might as well drive the night before and sleep there.

Thank you very much.

If it is really important, I suggest reaching here by previous evening. A 4 am start will mean you can encounter fog in these winter mornings, or there can be other delays in your route which you can not really predict.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Totally agree. Please drive down the day before and attend your event / meeting in a chilled frame of mind.

Entering BLR via any of the arterial highways at any time is very chancy!

Thats IISc right?

In any case, I'd suggest the same as everyone else here has suggested so far. Get here early the day before and go to the meeting fresh and prim. Depending on where you book your hotel, it will be a solid 30-40 minute travel even if you are relatively close to the place as it is very badly congested during office peak hours.

Apart from the other reasons mentioned, you'd be competing for road space with hundreds of overnight private buses all coming into Bangalore - something that'd slow you down considerably.

Either arrive in Bangalore before 5 AM or on the previous day would be my recommendation.

Regarding the location of Raman Research Institute, it is easily accessible on your route in to Bangalore. Just continue straight on the flyover at Hebbal junction, when you get near Mekhri circle, do NOT take the underpass, stick to the service road on the left that gets you above the junction and at the traffic light turn right - this road is called C V Raman Road and in less than 500m or so you should see the campus on the left (if it helps - the same road then continues towards IISc and Yeshwanthpur to become Tumkur Road).

That's what I also had in mind.

This is another Physics research institute, very close to IISc and with very close collaboration with IISc.

Thank you very much for very useful information on directions.

Based on all the suggestions, I would rather leave in the evening today. I feel so warmly happy to receive these suggestions at a short notice.

The OP's coming in from Tirupati. His entry into the city would be via KR Pura most likely. Coming from that side (along the ORR), the access ramp to this flyover is currently closed for traffic.
