Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

With govt trying to see double decker flyovers, why didn't they see the same need for airport road ? We have reached the point of flyover over flyover already

Or since the metro is on one side, they could build double decker flyover for just road traffic on the other side.

Yes things are really bad with both sides clogged from a long way back. Please travel only if urgently needed to avoid getting totally bogged down.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Things were really bad today, it took me over 2 hours to reach JP Nagar from Bellandur even when i left home at 8am. On a regular day it just takes around 25 minutes. Informed a couple of colleagues and asked them to avoid the travel to office today.

Its so good to hear "use alternate route" but the question is: Where are the alternate routes in Bangalore?

However, I still love these advisories. I was in two minds whether to go to office or not and decided to work from home. Colleagues mentioned it took them 2 hours for 4kms near Iblur-ORR.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

A colleague just reached office after an ordeal of 3 hrs from Bannerghata road to Bellandur. I told him to start back home now itself so he will be back by tea at home. 🙂

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I had some work in Indiranagar (from Sarjapur Road) and when I checked the maps at 930, it was a solid Red line all the way from HSR Layout to near the Carmelram flyover. I held tight for a bit and left at 11:00 am. The ride to Total Mall was pretty much choked but being on a two wheeler, I was able to go into the occasional gaps to get ahead. I turned right towards Bellandur and from there, it was very smooth sailing, hardly had to stop besides signals.

However, my relatives had reached Bangalore at 9:30 from Pune. They took almost 3 hours to get to HSR by taxi.

HSR Flyover seems to be back in action. Saw a few buses plying on it earlier this morning.

Bengaluru woman uses laptop while driving; Cops Track & Fine Her – ‘WFH, Not In Car While Driving’

Quote:
In a bizarre incident that has sparked widespread discussion on road safety, a woman in Bengaluru was fined by the traffic police for using a laptop while driving. The incident, which occurred within the RT Nagar traffic limits, came to light after a video of the woman multitasking behind the wheel went viral on social media.

The video, captured by a fellow motorist, shows the woman propping her laptop on the steering wheel while driving. The clip also captured the license plate of her car, enabling the police to identify and track her down. The Bengaluru Traffic Police acted swiftly, fining her Rs 1,000 for reckless driving and issuing a stern warning.

In a more general sense, there are no alternative roads in Bengaluru from anywhere to anywhere, not after people have started using navigation tools to get from home to office to rat-run on the roads ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rat_running ). I used to wonder why people used navigation tools to go on a route that they use daily and until I figured that people rely on the Google Maps to save a few minutes. This has led to a "no arbitrage" rat run situation across all roads. I used to know a lot of "improbable" roads to be at traffic, but they all seem "regularized" by Google Maps right now.

Thankfully, I still have some routes that are 50% more distance but 50% less time. I'm sure Google Maps will catch up soon.

Forget about alternative roads, even the ORR service road gets jammed by those wanting to avoid a little bit of traffic on the main road by entering into Service road and taking the immediate exit creating nuisance by disrupting the flow on the main road as well as those who genuinely want to take an exit.

Worse is they keep honking at those who have stopped for a few seconds to drop people at establishments as if that wasnt literally the purpose of a service road.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

A different form of Road-Rage:

Lately I have been seeing a very different and peculiar behaviour on the roads. Not a real Road Rage in the true sense but still very similar to that in the fact that it carries the same mind-set.

Here is a bizarre recent incident as an example.

The other day on a Sunday afternoon, I noticed that all of Ring Road was full of traffic due to flyover closures owing to Metro work near HSR. I was returning from Koramangala and hence decided to take the EGL, NAL Wind Tunnel, Bellandur lake to reach the ORR at Bellandur. Thinking back, I figured I overtook a small car at a junction coming out of EGL/Wind Tunnel. I had forgotten about it but when I reached the ORR and was about to turn to my intended direction and was waiting for the traffic to clear, I noticed a small car trying to squeeze in a non-present space over a bad ditch. I was a little surprised someone would risk that bad patch, that too in a small car and at a high speed. I figured someone was in a great hurry to reach somewhere. I did not give much further attention and a few meters ahead took my turn. At that point I noticed the driver raising his middle finger out of the window. And then I realized, perhaps this is the same car I overtook long back.

I find this behaviour strange but looking back have noticed that quite often many road-users indulge in this for no rhyme or reason. The urge to race on non-existent race-tracks and compete with strangers is something I just do not fathom.

Is this specific to Bangalore, perhaps due to frustrations piled up with current road conditions and traffic? Have you faced this? Please share if you have any anecdotes.

Mods: If you think this topic warrants a different thread, please feel free. I posted here as this also relates to Bangalore traffic and the rants related to it.

What car were you driving? The bigger and more expensive the car, more is the viciousness displayed towards it.

Sorry to say that there is a lot of daytime drinking by umpteen folks especially on Sundays and weekends/holidays. This is to avoid the drink-driving checks in the evenings / nights. I stay on the outskirts of BLR near Yelahanka, and it is common to see some terrible driving post-noon on weekends. From the risks being taken, it is plainly obvious from the irrationality that something is amiss.
