Came across this is a redit sub
This is similar to over bridges over highways for 2 wheelers and people to cross. They might have done so because you cannot have a ramp from the adjoining road and have to do ramps from the sides.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Come to Rajankunte, an accursed north BLR suburb with an idiotic flyover causing multiple accidents.

Can’t say anything unless you’re a ‘local’, and they have given up long back.

Very true. The entire stretch of Sarjapur Road beginning from Iblur is full of commercial establishments and restaurants. Hardly any have any/limited parking. So while we live near Sarjapur Road and have all the showrooms, outlets, stores, restaurants in the vicinity, when it comes to shopping, or eating out, we head to HSR, Koramangla or some mall because of severe traffic and parking issues on Sarjapur Road.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Doddaballapura Road update:
Saw a white Kwid (I think) grotesquely rear-ended just in front of the new Vishwa Vidyapeeth school next to Grasa/Kshema.

Boot was almost crushed into the front seats. Can only hope no kids were involved.

That cut in the median needs to be moved further down the road. Some good planning is underway closing other irritating median cuts, and this is a prime one which should get addressed ASAP.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

After Covid hit way back in 2020, I have never experienced Rush hour until last week.

I have been working completely remote and just started heading back to office as my work demanded it.

And boy, oh boy, was there a big difference. I have to travel about 20kms to my office at Sarjapur. Sometimes I travel in the morning and rarely I go to work in the evening (depending on requirement). Here are my observations in the differences of a matter of 5 years

1) Every road and I mean EVERY road I travel on irrespective of the route, Has some work going on on it at some point. Either its Metro, Drain, Cables or water/sewage line repairs. Why don't they get fixed fast? Well because how else would you keep the money flowing?

2) Though we are still in a hybrid working environment, traffic has increased 10 fold. Mostly due to the fact that Bangalorean's prefer traveling in their own vehicles instead of carpooling/ public transport.

3) Metro is helping to a certain degree but that last mile connectivity is what usually puts people off from using it (me included). Travel time for me using my own vehicle: 45mins - 1 hour. Metro - 1Hr 30mins.

4) I don't want to put any other city down but traffic is the same case in most metro cities where people just don't care about anyone else but themselves. But I would confidently say Bengaluru isn't the worst. I had travelled to Hyderabad a few months back to meet a friend. I was there for about 4 days. I drove for about 10 mins, stopped the car, asked him to take over and never sat behind the wheel again. Never wanted to drive after that. I thought it was bad here. But over there it is like a Free For All - Find space? Go for it doesn't matter if its in the opposite side of the road, doesn't matter if your a car, bike, 2 legs or 3 wheels, its chaos.

But all said and done, I have lived here my whole life and I would never think about leaving this city. I love it.(PS: I might be based about this last comment because I have lived no where else HA!).

To beat the frustration here is my Mantra - Make sure you have a good feel good playlist and leave 30mins earlier than your usual travel time. Makes a big difference in your mind set. At least for me it does

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Those who are familiar with this area/route, can anyone please tell me why this route has been blocked? Initially I thought it must be due to some NAMMA METRO work. But the board they have put up shows 'SE railway work in progress'.
For who are staying in SG Palya, commuting to Bagmane Tech Park and surrounding area knows how critical this stretch is. I hope this will not become like another 'Hebbal Flyover rework' kind of delays.

I think suburban rail work is progressing in that area.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

While the bike taxis were a menace for sure, their withdrawal seems to have a significant cascading effect on the traffic, at least from Whitefield to Domlur side. What used to be a 40 mins commute, has turned into a 90 minute one since these bike taxis were withdrawn.

I think these auto guys knew of something like this before hand, the number of auto's being parked on the congested wind tunnel road had increased significantly in the last year or so.

People who have rubber estates may be familiar with the term "slaughtering". That is used for the process to get the maximum possible benefit from a rubber tree, before it gets axed down.

That is what I guess is happening in Bangalore. Squeeze as much as possible from all sources. Public utility prices have any way been increased. And also allow local goons and to make some easy money (without them being handed down by the politicians). The auto rickshaw gangs are part of this group, and if they are given a monopoly they also can fleece the people maximum. Use emotional tactics like language issue to cause rift in society, or silence any form of protests.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Some stats from Moneycontrol. Even if mostly accurate these are massive number of vehicles. I assume this does not even count cabs, autos and other assorted vehicles that do not enter the tech parks but are still on the road.

Yes. the tweet says it is only private vehicles. although I guess this includes bikes as well and not just cars.

I wish some of the firms which mandate 2-3 days WFO count Monday or Fridays as 1.5 or 2 days. Will even out the traffic

I don’t think that road will open again. The 3rd and 4th railline for the suburban project will end up on the road leading in and out of that narrow underpass.

Oh! I assumed they’re reworking/widening that underpass

Was convenient, though congested. Have driven thru it 1-2 times, though it was better suited for two wheelers.

It was poorly designed and maintained, a few minutes of rain would cause it go get flooded. I would consciously avoid it during or immediately after rain. To add to the woes, many two wheelers would enter the underpass from the wrong way!
