Only way is to acquire the army land from MEG and widen it enough to include access ramps. In some places, there are markings on the MEG boundary wall like "+6", etc so seems like it's been surveyed and planned for widening but as with any other infrastructure project, no deadline !

You sure the reason to build the flyover high is for double stacked container trains?
I hope you know that there are numerous other bridges/flyovers/foot over bridges on this line that are lower in height.
And like I stated before a couple of pages back, a double stacked container rake cannot be run on a electrified line for the obvious reason that the overhead electric lines are present.

Been seeing this for the last 3 days - curious onlookers watching something happening under the Silk Board flyover, towards HSR side:

Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation-uploadfromtaptalk1392901319321.jpg

So many vehicles simply pull over to the left side abruptly, seeing the crowd. To avoid panic braking, I stick to the right most lane and carefully pass the mess.

What is it that attracts so many people every evening?

Even I witnessed the same around 2:30PM today. Onlookers assuming something amusing park their vehicles completely blocking a lane and running near the wall of the flyover. Similar pile up also existed on the other side with people dangerously crossing roads wanting to take a glimpse of whatever it could be.

Now that you mention that this has been happening for the past 3 days, I am wondering is some movie shoot is in progress?

Had seen the same yesterday and asked my cabbie the same question. As per him a couple of cobras are mating and that's the audience you saw. Obviously today is the third day that the "show" has been successfully running

I am not aware what the attraction is here.

On another note, I have noticed this, especially in Bangalore on how curious the public are, that they go to extend of risking life or limb just to be part of the curiousness.

To the extent that, if someone stops on the road and gaps at something up above or below just for the fun of it, in few minutes he would have atleast 5-10 guys doing the same! And then we all know what happens- a traffic jam.

This reminds me of a practical joke me and my friends used to play on Brigade road years ago. We'd just start looking up and pointing to the sky. Soon there would be a whole crowd of people looking up at the sky while we would make a quietly snickering exit! Of course, this used to be done only while walking.

I don't think it is to accommodate double-stacked container rakes, since I don't see where the containers could come from or could go to (unless it is to connect Mangalore port to Whitefield Concor terminal). But I think elsewhere in India the Railways is indeed thinking of converting existing tracks to run double-stacked container rakes by doing precisely what you suggest - rebuilding overbridges etc. Power lines I guess creates a unique problem as they have to be handled a long stretch at a time. But nothing prevents the railways from electrifying a line that carries double-stacked container rakes by planning the overhead equipment correctly.

Mangalore port to Whitefield Terminal is connected via Banasawadi. So yes, this line hardly sees container rakes although it sees 2 freights on a daily basis which is not a container rake.
As for rebuilding bridges, they rather run a 'python rake' which is running two full length rakes attached together, back to front. Anyway, we are OT now.

As for the height of the bridge, I feel it is for the reason I mentioned in the earlier post.

OT:

Wonder why people were so curios though, may be to watch and learn the act in Cobra Style.

I have even seen people surround dogs during the act and throw stone at them from the roadside.

Regards

May be to save time on the go, instead of watching NatGeo.

What a pathetic state of affairs. I just hope this is an eye opener for the RTO.

This is a real pain. Massive pileups in this area right from 0800 hrs onwards on account of this RTO Vehicle Fitness Check.

Good news. Last night the flyover to KR Puram was being relaid. The opposite lane seems it will get a fresh layer as well since they have cleaned the roads of dirt accumulated on the sides.

The same story continues on the new KIA elevated stretch near the Jakkur airstrip. I missed an airport cab by a few inches last sunday when the moron stopped dead centre and slowly steered his vehicle to check on a microlight taking off. Concerned authorities should plan to raise the wall by a few feet to avoid such disturbances during the build.

Today morning while going towards bommanahalli, I noticed many onlookers looking down the silk board flyover. I casually inquired from one of them as to what is so special. He said that 2 snakes were seen prowling on the adjacent water logged area. So the curiosity. Very funny isn't it considering the fact that these onlookers were not worried about the traffic jam as a result of this.
